00:00Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley challenges criticism levelled by intellectuals about
00:05last Sunday's PNM conference, saying their commentary and opinions ought to elevate the
00:10national narrative.
00:11Instead, what you get is misrepresentation, tomfoolery and downright incompetence.
00:21Some have taken issue with the government appointing a committee to conduct constitution
00:26reform consultations.
00:28A lecturer from the university is going to try to encourage a conversation, saying that
00:33because the opposition was not engaged in the appointment of that committee, it should
00:39go away.
00:40Dr. Rowley says some want to conveniently label it a PNM exercise, but it was the opposition,
00:46he says, which chose to not participate.
00:48Dr. Rowley says it is impossible to have a conversation about the constitution without
00:54the PNM's involvement.
00:56The PNM, that one, is the government, two, is the most experienced political entity in
01:01the country, and three, as government, if the PNM does not drive this engine, it does
01:07not leave the station.
01:09He urges the public to dismiss the nonsense published over the past 24 hours and stick
01:15to the facts.
01:16What galls me is the people who are supposed to lead the national conversation, like those
01:24who chose to comment today, I'll start off by saying, I don't know, but, I didn't listen
01:30to it, but.
01:31Well, if you couldn't be bothered, if you are a lecturer in the university and your
01:36job paid by taxpayers is to teach politics and you couldn't be bothered to find out what
01:43the PNM is saying and doing in convention, then you should be fired from the university.
01:51The PNM political leader explained what his party did at the convention was to pass a
01:56motion to give their general counsel a PNM position to put forward as they go into their
02:02November conference.
02:04The educators are saying, well, those PNM positions cannot be what the country has to
02:09follow because that is dictatorship.
02:13We never said we're pushing that down anybody's throat.
02:17Other people at the conference may have completely divergent views, but what's going to happen
02:24there at the conference, we will all know what we support and what we don't support.
