00:00Well, look, I don't want to do this either because I have a ticket on Skeens to win the

00:10NL Rookie of the Year.

00:12So believe me, I hate this as much as you do.

00:16But here is odds to win the Rookie of the Year, NL Rookie of the Year that's moved over

00:22the recent time.

00:24Forget about way back when.

00:25August 4th, Skeens was minus $8,000 to win, and Jackson Merrill of the Padres was 15-1.

00:33That has now gone to today, Skeens minus $170, and Jackson Merrill plus $1.15.

00:41Now I know, Scotty, that Jackson Merrill has had a tremendous last two weeks, and he's

00:49played very good for the Padres this year.

00:51I'm not disagreeing with any of that.

00:53But, man, it moved that much over the last couple weeks from Skeens.

00:58I mean, the guy was minus $8,000, and now he's minus $170.

01:04Can we get a big Skeens performance tomorrow night at PNC?

01:08Seven innings, 10Ks, one run.

01:11Get him back to nice, cushy minus $500 or something.

01:14Well, I think they need it desperately after losing 10 in a row.

01:18They have crashed and burned.

01:20Their season's over.

01:22They're seven back in a wild card.

01:24It's glad bag time.

01:27But I'll tell you this much.

01:28He lost two games, right?

01:30So people started dropping those tickets.

01:33They started selling those tickets because they don't think he's going to win it.

01:37And if he has another outing where he doesn't win, that'll probably be the end of him.

01:41And then they'll shut him down.

01:44I think that's the thing that is the biggest concern for a lot of people.

01:51And me and you, we've talked about this a lot.

01:53The Pirates have now gone in the tank the last two weeks.

01:58And if that continues, they're going to start to say, it's been a hell of a great first

02:03year for him, but we want to preserve his arm for next year so he can throw more innings

02:08next year, and we're not going to pitch him in September.

02:12Because Merrill's been so good that if he plays the whole month of September and Skeens

02:16doesn't, Scotty, that's going to be a problem for us.

02:19It's going to be a major problem.

02:21And I'm going to get mad.

02:22So I hope that the Pirates continue to pitch him.

02:24And Merrill's playing on a team that's on fire.

02:27And Merrill's been making, hitting home runs, having game-winning catches in center field

02:36to end games.

02:38He's doing everything, defensively and with the bat.

02:42So he's on a hot team.

02:45It makes him a hotter commodity.
