The Philadelphia Phillies pulled out a much-needed win on Wednesday night thanks to the heroics of Kyle Schwarber. The WIP Midday Show discusses how much that grand slam changed things for the Phillies as they head down the stretch of the season.

00:00You know, that game started off like so many games in recent days, where they're down early.

00:04Tyler Phillips is getting hit, hitting batters, and it's like,

00:07are we kidding here? Are they gonna get swept at home by the Miami Marlins?

00:12You know, hours after what seemed like a team meeting?

00:15Like, is it really- are they falling apart to that level?

00:18And, Hugh, they fight back a little bit, and they scratch across two runs,

00:21but then they go back down 5-2 before the Schwarber home run.

00:25And, Hugh, this may sound a little over the top, but I believe it this morning.

00:29That home run saved the season.

00:30If they lose last night to Miami-

00:33Yeah, that would've been tough.

00:34Oh, it would've felt like a spiral. It would've felt like everything yesterday,

00:38rock bottom, it just- it would like- they would've kept digging it,

00:41and he hits that home run, and it almost felt like it just lifted everyone's spirits in that ballpark.

00:46They looked like they had a different feel on them as a team,

00:49and then they kept adding on runs.

00:51Hugh, that moment last night for Schwarber was huge,

00:53because this team was on the verge of getting swept at home by the Marlins!

00:56Man, listen, let me tell you, I- I- like, I- I set my alarm, and I always set it too late.

01:01And I woke up- I woke up, like, right before- right after the game had started.

01:05So, I thought I was having a déjà vu or- or a Groundhog Day moment.

01:09Because when I turned the TV on, it's 3-0, and I'm like,

01:11wait a minute, why are they recapping yesterday's game?

01:14Because that's the way yesterday's game started.

01:17And it was a- there was a lot of trepidation.

01:19You could tell it was in the stadium, but the one thing that they didn't do,

01:22they didn't give up.

01:22And they showed that fight that they had shown earlier in the season,

01:26and that's what got them through, man.

01:28They- they never gave up.

01:29And- and, you know, I think they probably needed that adversity early on,

01:34because, you know, we did hear rumors about the- the team meeting and everything.

01:37And for them to get knocked down like that and- and get up off the campus,

01:40I think that was really big for them.

01:41Well, it was. It was huge.
