00:00We noticed that Pete was sitting by the window a lot and he would gaze out and this exact

00:17same red squirrel was coming by every day.

00:22We have a lot of wildlife that come and go, but Murphy would sit and wait for the squirrel

00:28in particular to come by and it turned out to be a daily ritual.

00:35Is Chippy out there?

00:45Initially Chippy was pretty cautious and sort of held her distance, but she was also very

00:50curious.

00:58Chippy would tiptoe out in a very cautious manner.

01:06Over time the trust was built, Chippy would actually come to the door and call for Murphy

01:10to come out.

01:18We thought it was really sweet, so we started to foster their friendship and leave little

01:23nuts.

01:26He knows exactly where the nuts are and he knows that they're for Chippy, so he might

01:30want to feed Chippy and he walks right into the pantry and he sits and waits and we walk

01:35out.

01:36It became a really adorable routine for all of us.

01:52Sometimes Murphy would come out and bring her gifts.

01:55He would bring her a ball, which is his favorite toy.

01:59He would just stand there and he'd drop it down slowly.

02:02He can be very possessive over his ball, so the fact that he'd drop it down for her, that's

02:08pretty special.

02:09He's just a very tender, sweet, loving dog who happened to fall in love with this red

02:15squirrel that's living in our yard.

02:22We noticed that Chippy had not been coming around so much.

02:29Murphy was feeling a little melancholy.

02:36He had this look of sadness and he would stand by the window on a daily basis with different

02:44gifts, hoping she would come back.

02:52Where's Chippy?

02:53He was really sad, so we decided to get him a new toy.

02:57All right, look what's inside.

03:01Look at that!

03:04Aww, it's a little Chippy.

03:07He adored it.

03:08It was his favorite toy.

03:10He carried it around by the tail and we had to wash it so many times.

03:18And then, in several weeks, she came back.

03:21He had a toy in his mouth and he was literally doing a little dance and circling by the back

03:27door.

03:28It was one of the purest moments.

03:30Is that Chippy?

03:31Oh my goodness, I think she's back!

03:34We realized Chippy had gone away because she was pregnant and she had babies.

03:39Then she started to bring her babies to the tree to meet him.

03:45It made us feel extremely happy that she trusted Murphy.

03:53He would tiptoe over and observe Chippy with her babies.

04:26I think he was attacked by a magpie.

04:28He couldn't jump as well as the other two babies, but he had adapted so well and would

04:34come by the most often.

04:52I could see that Peanut and Murphy had developed this magical friendship the same way that

04:58he had developed it with Chippy.

05:00Peanut will actually sit in the tree and make little chirping noises for Murphy to

05:04come out.

05:08Is that the baby?

05:22So, we decided to get a little picnic table for Peanut as a gift for Murphy.

05:27It was really funny.

05:28When we first put it up, Peanut was running back and forth, really, really excited, chirping

05:33and chirping and chirping.

05:34He's like, what?

05:35What is this?

05:36This is amazing!

05:37It was the cutest little gift.

05:42Now, Murphy goes right over to the picnic table and waits for Peanut, and Peanut's already

05:47there.

05:49He just knows, okay, this is our meeting spot.

05:55I know, I know.
