A coronial inquest into the shooting of two police officers and another man in Queensland’s Western Downs in 2022 - is holding its second day of hearings today.

00:00Today, we're expecting to hear from Constable Randall Kirk, who was one of two police officers

00:06to survive that deadly ambush at a Wianbilla property in mid-December 2022.

00:12It's expected he'll take the stand and give a first-hand account of what transpired that

00:17day when alleged religious extremist Gareth, Stacey and Nathaniel Train shot dead two of

00:23his colleagues, Matthew Arnold and Rachel McCrow.

00:27The Trains also shot dead their neighbour, Alan Dare.

00:30Yesterday the inquest gained some insight into what transpired when the four police

00:34officers went to the property for a routine missing persons check.

00:39Body camera vision from the police officers shows that Kirk and his colleague, Keely Brough,

00:45were able to flee to nearby bushland when the trio started shooting at them.

00:51Kirk was then able to sprint to a nearby police vehicle, despite having been shot in the hip

00:57and he also was able to call a colleague and explain what was happening as the incident

01:02unfolded.

01:03Now, today we're also expecting to hear from a detective who compiled a brief of evidence

01:09about the circumstances around the deaths that day before the inquest.

01:13And overall, the hearings are expected to run for about five weeks, with around 70 people

01:19expected to give evidence.
