Rally for the victims whose voices were silent, for survivors whose courage brings us hope,
00:16
and for generations to come who deserve to live free from harm.
00:21
We are here to say unequivocally that enough is enough.
00:26
Domestic violence is not just a private matter.
00:28
It is a pervasive issue that affects every layer of our society.
00:32
It thrives in silence and secrecy, feeding on power imbalances and societal indifference.
00:38
By coming today we are breaking that silence.
00:41
We are shining a light on the dark corners where abuse hides and we are demanding change.
00:48
Change begins with us, here, now, in this moment.
00:52
It begins with raising our voices, educating our communities and holding our leaders accountable.
00:58
It begins with supporting survivors, offering them the resources they need to heal and rebuild
01:03
their lives and ensuring they know that they are not alone.
01:09
Our presence here today is a testament to our strength and solidarity.
01:14
It's a reminder that when we come together we can achieve remarkable things.
01:18
We can push for stronger laws, better support systems and a cultural shift that no longer
01:23
tolerates any form of violence or discrimination.
01:28
Listen.
01:30
Listen without judgement.
01:33
Validate their experiences.
01:36
Often survivors may feel ashamed or guilty and speaking about their experiences can be
01:41
an incredibly difficult thing to do.
01:44
So listen.
01:46
Listen attentively.
01:48
Reassure them that they are not alone and that the violence is not their fault.
01:53
It can be a safe space for someone to open up and feel supported.
01:58
Just let them be heard.
02:01
Secondly we encourage you to encourage them to seek professional help.
02:06
You can offer to accompany someone to appointments with counsellors or support services or suggest
02:11
someone else who could.
02:14
Counselling can provide crucial support in rebuilding self-esteem and coping with trauma.
02:19
We are fortunate to have local organisations such as Headspace and Likemind, just to name
02:24
two, to offer mental health support as well as many private practice psychologists that
02:29
specialise in this area.
02:32
Additionally Victim Services NSW is an avenue to access much needed funding for immediate
02:37
needs and counselling.
02:39
I want everyone to have a look around here.
