Lawrence O'Donnell Calls Trump "The Laziest and Stupidest President in History"

00:00Well, Donald Trump is now the oldest nominee for president in history, and Kamala Harris

00:04is not going to let anyone forget that, as we will see in a moment.

00:11On another day, when economic news indicators showed the world-leading strength of the Biden-Harris

00:18economy, Donald Trump did what he usually does, nothing.

00:25For four years, Donald Trump was the laziest and stupidest president in history by far,

00:30and now he is the laziest and stupidest presidential candidate in history.

00:35He is the only candidate for president today who did absolutely nothing today.

00:41There is no evidence that Donald Trump got out of bed today.

00:45He wouldn't have had to do that for the unhinged phone call he placed to the Fox propaganda

00:51network this morning, an hour before the new GDP report came out, showing even stronger

00:59growth in the American economy than anticipated.

01:02In a statement, President Biden said, today's GDP report makes clear we now have the strongest

01:07economy in the world, thanks to my and Vice President Harris's economic agenda.

01:11Our economy grew a robust 2.8 percent over the last quarter, based on strong American

01:17consumers and business investment.

01:20That will not stop Donald Trump, and did not stop Donald Trump, from lying about the

01:24American economy and pretending it is something other than the best in the world, as he did,

01:30of course, today, on the phone with Fox, when he also called Kamala Harris real garbage.

01:40I get a kick out of one thing, they say, sir, be nice, you just got hit with a bullet, maybe

01:47he's changed, be nice, and I'd love to be nice, but I'm dealing against real garbage,

01:54when you hear that.

01:56Okay, sir, two things.

02:00Number one, according to the FBI director's under oath testimony yesterday, we don't know

02:06if Donald Trump got hit with a bullet.

02:09The FBI director suggested it could be shrapnel, or something else far less dangerous than

02:13a bullet.

02:14Donald Trump is the only person in history protected by the Secret Service who was shot

02:18at, brought to a hospital, and then did not allow any of the medical personnel at that

02:23hospital to explain to the news media what happened to him.

02:28None of the medical personnel who treated Donald Trump at the hospital have been allowed

02:32to say what they think drew blood that day.

02:38With respect to former President Trump, there's some question about whether or not it's a

02:45bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear.

02:48So it's conceivable, as I sit here right now, I don't know whether that bullet, in addition

02:53to causing the grazing, could have also landed somewhere else.

02:58But I believe we've accounted for all of the shots and the cartridges.

03:03And number two, real garbage.

03:07If you're the type of person who tries to think of people as inanimate objects, it's

03:12hard to think of someone who would better personify real garbage than the man who you

03:18just heard call his opponent real garbage.

03:22Everything out of Donald Trump's mouth is real garbage, and should be treated as such

03:28by the news media.

03:29Donald Trump is a pollutant.

03:32He has polluted American politics.

03:34He has polluted the vulnerable minds of the people who believe QAnon madness and all other

03:39sorts of utter impossibilities about the world, and then follow their hero, Donald Trump.

03:46He is simultaneously stupid enough to believe the real garbage that he spews, and liar enough

03:52not to believe all of it.

03:55And so the real garbage campaign is underway.

04:00On most campaign days between now and election day, the oldest, laziest, and stupidest presidential

04:05nominee in history will do absolutely nothing, but will probably manage to find the time

04:12on social media or otherwise to spew his garbage, including on Rupert Murdoch's garbage channel,

04:21where they all lap it up for money, Rupert Murdoch's money.

04:26Rupert Murdoch is the richest and oldest owner of a propaganda channel anywhere in

04:32the world, and he has dedicated it for years now to the delivery of real garbage directly

04:40into the homes of Fox viewers on behalf of the real garbage man, who is the oldest and

04:48only criminal presidential nominee in history.

04:52The Harris campaign's response to Donald Trump's words on Fox this morning was titled

04:58this way, statement on a 78-year-old criminal's Fox News appearance.

05:05The statement then took issue with some of what Donald Trump had to say, and of course,

05:10but the whole point of the statement was in that title.

05:15And that's the part that Donald Trump will be hit with every day, and that will hurt

05:20him personally every day, because we know who he is.

05:24We know enough to know that the phrase 78-year-old criminal will hurt him personally and is going

05:33to be thrown at Donald Trump every day for the next 103 days by the Harris campaign.

05:40And every one of those days, it's going to be true.

05:43Donald Trump is going to be 78 years old, and he is going to be a criminal, a convicted

05:48criminal every day of the presidential campaign.

05:51On September 18th, in the middle of the presidential campaign, he's going to be sentenced for

05:56his 34 criminal convictions in a Manhattan courtroom, and Kamala Harris is not going

06:01to let anyone not pay attention to that fact, that Donald Trump is a 78-year-old criminal

06:08on that day when he is sentenced and on every day of the campaign.

06:15Of all of Donald Trump's bad qualities, his stupidity is both the most consistent and

06:22the most publicly damaging quality he has, because it is the stupidity, the raw, unrelenting

06:30stupidity that lets him say things like this publicly.

06:38She's got a new line, you know.

06:39She's going, I'm the prosecutor.

06:41She's one of the worst prosecutors in history.

06:43And the campaign says, I'm the prosecutor, and he is the convicted felon.

06:49That's their campaign.

06:51I don't think people are going to buy it.

06:54What's to buy?

06:56It's true.

06:57She's a prosecutor, and you are a convicted felon, Donald.

07:01The entire world knows both of those things are true, and both of those things are going

07:07to be true every day of this presidential campaign.

07:10And now the prosecutor wants her day in court, the court of public opinion, with the convicted

07:15felon.

07:16I'm ready to debate Donald Trump.

07:19I have agreed to the previously agreed upon September 10th debate.

07:24He agreed to that previously.

07:25Now it appears he's backpedaling.

07:26But I'm ready.

07:27And I think the voters deserve to see the split screen that exists in this race on a

07:35debate stage.

07:36And so I'm ready.

07:38Let's go.

07:39Donald Trump does pull himself out of the easy chair and get out on the campaign trail,

07:44as he did yesterday.

07:46He no longer uses that line about how he always hires the best people, since so many of the

07:51people he hired as president he then fired, and so many of them and others who worked

07:56for Donald Trump as president, including his vice president, Mike Pence, have turned against

08:01Donald Trump in this presidential campaign.

08:05Donald Trump continues to demonstrate just how bad he is at the very concept of hiring

08:11an expertise in government.

08:13Yesterday he said he wants race car drivers to guide our military.

08:19He wants race car drivers to tell our generals and the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Pentagon

08:25what to do.

08:26Donald Trump believes that if you can drive a car in circles, surely you can tell the

08:31entire Defense Department to do what to do in every situation.

08:35He also said he thinks that football coaches should come to the Pentagon and take over

08:40those meetings and tell the generals what to do.

08:43Here's one of Donald Trump's favorite former football coaches.

08:49My opinion of a white nationalist, if somebody wants to call him white nationalist, to me

08:52is an American.

08:54That Alabama white nationalist may be America's stupidest person who has ever won a football

09:00game as a coach.

09:02And he is now, of course, a Republican senator.

09:06While Donald Trump did absolutely nothing today and may have spent the entire day in

09:10pajamas and slippers, we don't know, Kamala Harris accepted the endorsement of the American

09:16Federation of Teachers in Houston.

09:19As you may know, I am a proud product of public education.

09:27Many of you know that my first grade teacher, Mrs. Frances Wilson, God rest her soul, taught

09:35me and educated me and encouraged me and inspired me.

09:42And years later, when I walked across the stage to receive my law school diploma, Mrs.

09:48Frances Wilson was in the audience.

09:56And that's who you are.

09:58I know who you are.

09:59I know who you are.

10:01This work is personal.

10:04And it is professional.

10:05And it is so critically important.

10:08And so it is because of Mrs. Wilson and so many teachers like her that I stand before

10:14you as vice president of the United States of America.

10:21And that I am running to become president of the United States of America.

10:31In this moment, we are in a fight for our most fundamental freedoms.

10:37And to this room of leaders, I say, bring it on.
