A restaurant supervisor was charged at a Magistrate’s Court in Johor Baru, Johor with driving under the influence of alcohol and injuring a traffic policeman.

Ng Wee Long, 34, pleaded not guilty to the charge read in Mandarin before Magistrate Nur Fatin Mohamad Farid on Thursday (July 18).

00:00A restaurant supervisor was charged at a magistrate's court in Johor Bahru with driving under the
00:07influence of alcohol and injuring a traffic policeman.
00:11Thirty-four-year-old Ng Wee Long pleaded not guilty to the charge, which was read in Mandarin
00:17before Magistrate Nur Fatin Mohamad Farid on Thursday.
00:21According to the charge sheet, Ng allegedly drove a silver proton wearer while under the
00:26influence of alcohol along kilometre 3.6 of Jalan Pantai towards Permas Jaya at 7.05
00:33a.m. on July 14, resulting in the injury of Corporal Mohamad Rasul Mohamad Yusof.
00:39Ng's blood alcohol level was reportedly 121 milligram per 100 milliliter, exceeding
00:46the legal limit of 50 milligram per 100 milliliter blood by 71 milligram.
00:52The charge was framed under Section 44, Subsection 1A, Subsection B of the Road Transport Act
00:581987, punishable with a jail term of 7 to 10 years and a fine of 30,000 to 50,000 ringgit
01:06and license suspension upon conviction.
01:10Magistrate Nur Fatin set bail at 9,000 ringgit with one surety, ordered the suspension of
01:16Ng's driving license until the end of the court proceedings, and required him to report
01:21to the Plentong Police Station once a month.
01:24The magistrate set August 25 for next mention and the submission of documents, and also
01:29instructed Ng to appoint a lawyer.
01:33The incident occurred while the victim was conducting traffic control at the location.
01:38The policeman was managing traffic following an unrelated car accident.
01:44As the involved vehicle was being towed, another car, allegedly driven by the accused, made
01:49a sudden lane change.
01:51Johor Bahru South OCPD Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat reported that the policeman standing
01:58to the left of the tow truck was thrown onto the front windscreen and then flung into the
02:03air before landing in the middle of the road.
