Welcome to Townsend Place to our new Mary Stephens Hospice shop.
00:06
This is the first shop we've opened in seven years and we're absolutely delighted to be back in Kingsford.
00:12
So we're going to hand over to Rachel, new shop manager, and Helen, one of our sisters, to cut the ribbon.
00:18
So we're here at the Mary Stephens Hospice shop, brand new shop for Kingsford.
00:34
But there was one here previously wasn't there, Clare?
00:36
There was, up in the High Street, yes.
00:38
How long ago was that then?
00:40
It's been shut for six, seven years now.
00:42
Yeah, so nice to be back.
00:44
Absolutely, yeah.
00:46
How many shops have you got now?
00:48
This will be our fourteenth shop.
00:50
Fourteenth shop?
00:52
Yes, we're very proud.
00:54
Where was your first shop?
00:56
Our very first shop was in Victoria Passage, Stourbridge High Street.
00:58
Just off Stourbridge High Street.
01:00
And that was some 31 years ago now.
01:02
31 years, wow.
01:04
And store manager is?
01:06
Rachel.
01:08
Are you new to the team or have you been involved with a shop previously?
01:10
I'm not. I used to sponsor Mary Stephens at Wollaston.
01:12
I did that for five years.
01:14
So I've been being bank staff all by Mary Stephens
01:16
for about a year and a half.
01:18
So this is my first full-time shop.
01:20
So I'm very excited.
01:22
And hats off, I mean, it's the life, isn't it?
01:24
The volunteering team that are kind of behind you.
01:26
So hats off for those five years
01:28
putting in the graft there.
01:30
And we've got a couple of staff members.
01:32
You had the honour of cutting the ribbon, didn't you?
01:34
I did, yes.
01:36
So you're one of the nurses at the hospice?
01:38
Yes, I've been working on the inpatient unit now
01:40
for just going into my ninth year.
01:42
It's wonderful.
01:44
The work they do is amazing, isn't it?
01:46
Incredible. We've got a great team.
01:48
And people get confused with hospices.
01:50
They kind of think it's a place where we go in its end of life.
01:52
But it's not, is it?
01:54
You have day patients, you have all kinds of cases.
01:56
Absolutely.
01:58
We've got two parts for our hospice.
02:00
We've got our day services.
02:02
We're currently looking after between 100 and 150 patients a week.
02:04
And they come in for
02:06
eight-week programmes
02:08
of targeted care
02:10
or for therapies
02:12
or to access our patient
02:14
and family support services.
02:16
So social worker, bereavement team,
02:18
spiritual care.
02:20
And then we've got our inpatient unit
02:22
where Jasper and Helen work.
02:24
We've got ten beds and we look after anybody
02:26
from the age of 18 right the way through.
02:28
We offer symptom management,
02:30
crisis intervention,
02:32
as well as end-of-life care.
02:34
Yes, it's a massive team, isn't it?
02:36
So you're always after
02:38
good quality donations for the shops, aren't you?
02:40
We are.
02:42
Rachel will be pleased to see you turn up with a bag of some good quality stuff.
02:44
How much of a big part
02:46
is it in terms of the funding
02:48
that you get from the shops?
02:50
How much of the funding comes from that kind of area?
02:52
So we have to raise
02:54
as a hospice
02:56
over £2.8 million
02:58
every year
03:00
towards our running costs.
03:02
Our trading company, which is all of our shops,
03:04
give back to us
03:06
more than I make
03:08
upwards of £300,000 a year.
03:10
So it's a huge, huge
03:12
part of the hospice
03:14
that's really important to us.
03:16
Well, thank you very much
03:18
everyone involved and good luck
03:20
with this new shop here in King's Winford.
03:22
Come down and spend your money, folks!
