00:00Well, I think what audiences are going to see is that this Deadpool and this Wolverine
00:05are definitely loyal to the characters we love, but because it's a proper two-hander,
00:12it's a real odd couple duo.
00:16That's a foundation for comedy, for conflict, for action, but it evolves into something
00:22subversive that people don't expect, which is a more emotional story and a story that's
00:27ultimately about a form of brotherhood, and as a result of that, it gives Hugh and Ryan
00:32a chance to play colours they haven't with these characters.
00:36I've watched a lot of interviews of yourself and Hugh and Ryan, and when you say brotherhood,
00:41I can see the three of you are here to impress together, like you have a genuine connection
00:45and friendship.
00:46Yeah.
00:47Yeah, no, it's real.
00:48Professional, really?
00:49No, it's real.
00:50I mean, we've been, you know, I met Hugh on Real Steel, I met Ryan, we did Free Guy, we
00:55haven't stopped since.
00:56We all hang out in real life.
00:58This is not a Hollywood friendship, it's a life friendship, and we've helped each other
01:03through challenging times, when we're meeting, you know, a friend to lean on or friendly
01:09advice, so that's real, and I do think that the best movies somehow take what's going
01:13on in real life and transpose it on screen, and so I think it's no accident that the three
01:20of us are such close friends, and the movie is ultimately a very warm movie about friendship.
01:25You unlocked a core memory of mine today, because I was looking at your back catalogue,
01:28and you directed Big Fat Liar.
01:30Yeah, you're right in that sweet spot at BFL.
01:32It's a wonderful film, can you share some memories of me working with say, Frankie Muniz,
01:37Paul Giamatti?
01:38Yeah, I mean, that was my first studio movie, and I was so excited to get that chance, and
01:44the first thing I did is I cast my college buddy, Paul Giamatti, as the adult lead.
01:50I now consider Marty Wolfe one of the unheralded icons of comedy, and it is so close to Paul's
01:57heart and my heart.
01:59Big Fat Liar, I barely knew what I was doing, but I was so enthused to be there, and I was
02:06just trusting my instincts, and the truth is, it's now 15 movies later, and I still
02:11do the same thing.
02:12I'm still excited to be here, and all I can do every day, even with all this Marvel noise
02:16and all this expectation, is trust my instincts.
02:20And I think I can get away with this, because this is a Marvel film, under the Disney umbrella.
02:24You have a Star Wars film up and coming.
02:27I don't know what we can say about it still, there are rumours that there's a writer attached
02:30to it now.
02:31What can you tell us about this project?
02:32Yeah, I am happy that's one secret I don't have to keep keeping.
02:36Jonathan Tropper is writing my Star Wars film, we did the Atom Project together, and we have
02:41an idea that is really exciting to us, and exciting to Kathy Kennedy and Dave Filoni,
02:47so one never knows if development reaches the starting gate, but my hope is that it will.
02:52Can you share anything, like a character, a main character?
02:54I definitely can't share anything.
02:56I've been so well trained by Stranger Things and Marvel, that my lips are sealed.
