00:12I'm curious to know, but what was it like working with Ryan and Hugh?
00:16Was it as unhinged as we expected it to be?
00:19It was super fun.
00:20There were a lot of laughs.
00:23But it was also, we know the opportunity we have here.
00:28The opportunity to finally do a movie with these two iconic characters together.
00:34And so we really wanted to make a movie built for maximum audience entertainment.
00:39And so while there was a lot of fun and laughter every day, there was also a real focus on,
00:44okay, let's really do our jobs at a level that is beyond what we thought possible.
00:51And we put each other, you know, when a scene was great, we explored how could it be greater?
00:56And so really it was both the most fun I've ever had making a movie, but it was also the
01:04most gratifying as well.
01:05That's great to hear.
01:06Is there a specific memory or moment during production that will stay with you for a long time?
01:12Well, there's a bunch.
01:13But I think one that is hard to top is the first day that Hugh stepped out onto the set
01:21in the yellow suit and Ryan in the new Deadpool suit.
01:25And these are my friends.
01:27They're literally two of my best friends in the world.
01:29I spend so much time with them in my life.
01:33But seeing the two of them in those iconic superhero suits in real life, me and frankly, 200 other people
01:44on set were just like, oh my gosh, that's Wolverine and Deadpool.
01:49So there was something sort of magical that happened then.
01:54And I'll never forget that feeling.
01:55And so this is not the first time you've worked with Ryan.
01:58You've worked with him several times before.
01:59What is it about, you know, Ryan that keeps you both working together?
02:03I mean, for starters, he's just an authentic, nice human.
02:07And he's also relentlessly hardworking.
02:11And the truth is, I love working really, really hard.
02:15And I've spent a lot of my life leaving teams where they might be talented, but no one wants to
02:22work quite as brutally relentlessly as I like to.
02:26But Ryan's right there.
02:28So I'll be sprinting up that mountain every day.
02:31Ryan's right there.
02:31And really, from the moment he asked me to do this with him, through a year of working on the
02:38script and the last year of shooting and editing and sound design, it's really been this creative brotherhood.
02:45Not only, I think, this bond through work ethic, but we're at a stage in our careers and our lives
02:53where we want to build movies for audience joy.
02:57And hopefully we've done that for a third time here with Deadpool and Wolverine.
03:01Now, speaking of movies that bring joy, you've worked on some classic comedy films.
03:06Is there a particular project or genre that you'd like to tackle next?
03:10You know, I've spent so much of my career facing goals in the back of my mind.
03:17This has made things more complicated because I don't know what's cooler and more exciting than getting to direct Deadpool
03:27and Wolverine.
03:27So at this point, I'm enjoying this moment.
03:31I literally finished the movie like a day ago.
03:36And I'm just thrilled that the world seems to be waiting with such anticipation.
03:40And as far as what's next, I'm only going to say yes to directing things I can't resist.
03:45And I guess my last question is, I love how in every Deadpool movie, I never know what to expect
03:51coming into the cinema.
03:53From your perspective as a director, what can audiences expect from Deadpool and Wolverine?
03:57Well, I think they can expect the audacious humor that we all want out of a Deadpool movie.
04:02They can expect some action sequences unlike any they've seen and a variety of fights and action sequences that really
04:14are constantly refying expectations.
04:17And ultimately, just this big screen, big visual journey that explores the kind of reluctant bond between these two characters
04:31who really just want to kill each other.
04:32And that's a recipe for funny.
04:35That's a recipe for conflict and for action.
04:39But where it really gets interesting is, well, what happens when that oil and water reluctant friendship becomes friendship?
04:48And there's a warmth to the movie that I think people won't be expecting but are going to very much
04:53enjoy.
