00:00Oh, I don't want to see pictures of that I have to get a surgery to reattach that tendon to
00:04the bone
00:05I'm no iron Pierre
00:21Yeah, don't put this on there, but all right new lesson take the ring you fly just fly
00:28Yeah, I'm sorry fly, please
00:36What's that?
00:37How you doing mate? Hey, that's me. I mean, how you doing? Thank you so much for your time
00:41Welcome to the UK on one of the hottest summers we've ever had in history
00:45But share with me some of your UK your London memories like across your career. Surely you've been here a
00:50few times any favorite memories
00:51I have on God darn. What was the name of the movie with Jamie Foxx? Anyway the um
00:58we had to shoot some stuff in the boat on the river oh nice and uh
01:02Jamie's character and and uh
01:05Stunt guys they had to jump into the river and this and that but I had to learn how to
01:08to ride a certain section of the river and the uh the guys who run the the boats up and
01:13down
01:13There was one particular fellow that his family's been doing it for uh
01:17He's done a lot of back in action. Hey, we oh yes good lord reason
01:22very recent yeah um
01:26Anyway, uh, yeah, it was really cool going up and down here at night time in the uh in the
01:29boat and his he had his son with him
01:31I think he was like I don't like sixth generation and his son was going to take over after him
01:36and but it was just beautiful
01:37We uh, we ran the length of so many bridges, you know, right under the tower bridge
01:42And that whole thing it was gorgeous. So that's one of my greatest memories. Yeah
01:46Hey, uh congratulations on being I'm sorry. I took up so much your film
01:50No, no, no
01:52Congratulations on being the Green Lantern. I wonder for you at what stage across the process like after doing casting
01:57and today
01:58At what point do you like feel like the Green Lantern like when it like really hits home for you
02:02It's when you're it's when you're doing it and you catch yourself
02:08Using the inflection or the tone of the character while you're walking around the house and your wife says don't
02:13do that
02:13Don't do that, you know that kind of stuff
02:15um, and then you get rid of it once the whole thing's over and uh, and then um
02:22Yeah, so like once we finish this press, uh, you know, it's uh
02:26It's kind of over right and so you you move on to the next thing sort of sad to see
02:31him go
02:31I like the guy a lot well the character
02:33I was thinking about this. I was I was gonna ask you this morning
02:36You know how it feels to be a hero
02:37But then I actually saw that you're a volunteer firefighter
02:40And I'm saying that you're already a bona fide hero in that regard
02:42That's a really admirable thing to do
02:44Are there any crossover between like your experiences all the the skills that you need for that and
02:50Potentially playing this role or just in your career any crossovers look in general. It's like, you know, the only
02:55thing an actor has is
02:57This is my instrument. So whatever I do and whatever I learn
03:00That's that but um the fire department experience was really interesting and the the thing that I really learned most
03:08about it is
03:08I I luckily avoided anything
03:11Really horrendous, but the first times that those horrendous things happened. I thought about the uh the young guys who
03:18are
03:20Who are who were at those scenes and uh, you know, you don't lose those memories
03:25And that's another thing I was able to incorporate though into Hal is that
03:30He uh through his career has to make choices between life and death
03:34So you're gonna see the person you're gonna let die and the people you're gonna save and those decisions and
03:39uh, and those images don't leave you so I that was a
03:44Connection to his pathology in a way, so
03:47Um, I loved uh, obviously watching yours and aaron's dynamic on screen as a calendar. Yeah, we had fun
03:53Uh, well, I I read that you also had you know, you had to get cast then you have your
03:57screen test together as well
03:58Yeah, was it automatic from that first meeting from that first screen?
04:01So I told him no I said that guy no no no no no
04:05Um, but they said yeah, it's him and I was like
04:08Whatever all right, we'll try it and uh
04:11He uh when he first walked in when he first walked in you know
04:15He had a he had a halo on his arm because he's a boxer and uh
04:20You can ask him what he did to his arm, but he separated the tendon snapped and his bicep went
04:25up towards his shoulder and all this stuff
04:27And then he's got pictures you want to see no, I don't want to see pictures of that
04:30But um, but he repaired it while he was doing the show and while he was doing the show
04:34He had to be careful in it and what have you, but um, we had a hell of a good
04:38time
04:39We we really did it was a hard it was a hard job
04:42Um, I mean they all are but we were on location most of the time and that's a couple hours
04:47driving to and from work in la
04:50And uh, you know hot days too and all the all the stuff actors
04:55bitch about and complain about but um
04:58We made the best of it we did and that everyone was really positive and optimistic on the show and
05:04uh
05:04We all we all had a good time great people great people as shows on screen
05:08It's a wonderful watch honestly. I really enjoyed it. I'm so glad of that. Thank you so much your time.
05:12Yeah, cheers, man. Thanks
05:13Appreciate it. Yes, man. Yeah, I mean nice to meet you. I'm jamie. Thanks so much your time
05:16Um, hey, I was talking to kyle a second ago and he dubbed you in it
05:19He said that when you turned up for the screen testing to start shooting you turned up with a sling
05:22Uh, real bad like arm injury. Yeah, tell me about the injury and then also how did it uh
05:28Affects the further days of shooting was there any like real troublesome days for you?
05:32I mean no
05:33So I mean the the the day that I turned up in the brace that was shortly after my surgery
05:38um
05:39My tendons attached from the bone my bicep went to my shoulder
05:42So I had to get a surgery to reattach that tendon to the bone and I won't give you the
05:47details
05:47I'll spare you the details, but I went into my screen test with that but by the time we had
05:52started shooting my my arm was
05:55Almost a hundred percent and that was just because I poured myself into
06:02Rehabilitating and I must say that it wasn't something that just I
06:05I achieved it was a whole team that I had uh supporting me in that process, you know from
06:11uh, you know my physician and my physiotherapist
06:14uh, you know my personal trainer, so
06:17Thank you to everybody who had a hand in
06:20Getting me back to where I needed to be in order to
06:23Go into filming a hundred percent. Um, I was reading today about your journey towards, you know, joining this DCEU
06:31Um, and there was a DCEU. Thank you very much. Keep me honest. Thank you
06:35Uh, there was a talk at one point that James couldn't consider you for Adam Waller back in the day
06:40Which I know is like, uh, you know sliding doors moments and all that
06:43But obviously you must have met James at that time perhaps like tell me surely this feels like the right
06:48fit now though
06:49You know, yeah, it's a joy. It's it's it's a joy to uh
06:54Know James as
06:58A collaborator as a creative as a professional and it's also a joy to be
07:04Developing what is the beginnings of a real sincere friendship. Um, he's a blast to be around
07:09Are we hoping that there's more collaborations to come whether it be a season two whether it be appearances in
07:13films like
07:13Absolutely, absolutely. Absolutely. I can't say too much, but absolutely. That's the right answer as well
07:18Thank you so much your time. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you
07:21How are you doing today on this? What is a beautiful landscape? However, it's bloody warm, isn't it?
07:26It's not as warm as it has been which i'm quite grateful for although. Yeah, it's very warm
07:30There's no getting away from it. Hey, congratulations on lanterns
07:34I've been through like as many episodes as I could before today. It's so gripping. Yes
07:38Um, I loved meeting your character because obviously it's a comic book franchise, but to my knowledge
07:44She didn't exist in any ip beforehand
07:46Is that a bit freeing to know that you have a character you don't really have to like kind of
07:48base it off of a previous ip or something
07:51Yeah, I think I didn't have to live up to anything playing carrie because she's she's sort of brand new
07:58um, but you know, it's it was still pretty daunting to be invited over in the first place was amazing
08:05and and you know
08:07Green Lantern has been made before and so people have sort of there's all sorts of connotations there
08:12But this is very much like it's always been the green lantern like singular and so this is plural and
08:18I think
08:20Yeah, I think it will be intriguing for people
08:23Um, I loved during the first episode is a brilliant chase sequence with yourself and Aaron hunting down someone
08:30And it makes me think about those scenes because obviously there's a lot of like set pieces like run down
08:33this corridor now down that car park
08:35How have those days been like all right kelly you're gonna sprint for the rest of the day though?
08:39I just felt I'd made a terrible mistake as I felt the the tv the show runners had as well
08:45I am
08:46I've got a newfound respect for any running I see on screen because it was a few night shoots of
08:53me running across gyms
08:55There was running across football fields and um, there was I would get into the car at the end of
09:03the work night
09:04And I could barely move my legs and as the days went on I got stiffer and stiffer
09:09So yeah, I'm no I'm no iron pier
09:14No one is to be fair
09:15No
09:16Um, I loved uh, obviously I've seen you give uh many brilliant American accents before how easily can you switch
09:21between your natural accent into American?
09:23Do you have like phrases that take you into it or can you just switch it on?
09:27I can't, no I don't switch it on I work quite hard but I kind of um, the drives to
09:33work were quite helpful
09:34I would play um, someone's voice that I I was sort of finding helpful and so I would just talk
09:43to myself driving
09:44to these insane locations every day
09:47Yeah
09:48And finally obviously you have a lot of scenes with Aaron and Kyle on set
09:52uh and spent many a month together I'm sure in this
09:55What did you learn about them two uh that you didn't know before you started this whole process?
10:00Um, well I knew I I knew their work and I knew um how talented they were and that just
10:10became more abundant as we were filming they're just um
10:14I don't know the better the people you're working with the easier the job is
10:18So it just frees you up to have a lot of fun and and it was it was just so
10:23much fun
10:24I really miss it actually
10:26Fingers crossed for season two
10:28Yeah fingers crossed
10:29Thank you so much for your time enjoy today
10:30There's more going on here than you realize
10:35The best thing you can do for all of us is just go
10:40If you want this job
10:42We have to move you off the game board
10:44You think they're gonna let you keep the ring?
10:47They'll go and get it
10:48So
10:50You
10:50You
