00:00As the school holidays loom, a new report highlights a growing concern. One in 12 children

00:06are missing out on meals due to money worries during extended breaks. For many children,

00:11looking ahead to the school holidays brings joy and excitement. However, for others, the

00:15six weeks away can bring significant hardship. Research shows that almost half of families

00:20say their children will miss out on clubs and activities this summer because of the

00:24cost, leading to less active and more isolated youngsters. Last summer, the Trussell Trust's

00:29food bank supported 430,000 people with emergency food, including 160,000 children. The charity

00:36expects similar if not higher demand this year. It's a well-documented issue, and so

00:41beyond charity and government help, many businesses offer free or one-pound meals for kids over

00:46the summer. These UK chains include Asda Cafe, Beef Eater, Bella Italia, Ikea, Morrison's

00:51Cafe, TGI Fridays and many more. Also, Tesco's Stronger Starts programme sees the supermarket

00:56offering pre-packed food donation bags in every large store and kids eating free in

01:00their cafes. Customers can also contribute by rounding up their shopping bills at the

01:04checkouts.
