00:00After missions in Mali and Afghanistan, these French soldiers have been deployed to Paris.
00:07With 15 million visitors expected over the course of the Olympics, securing the event
00:12is a top priority.
00:14Our mission is to secure Olympic and Paralympic sites.
00:18It's the mission called Sentinel which we've come to know very well.
00:21We reservists and active military are very trained for it.
00:24A temporary military base has been set up less than 30 minutes away from all Olympic
00:29sites and the mammoth facility can house over four and a half thousand soldiers.
00:35We're heading into the barracks which we have for two and a half months.
00:39Fifteen soldiers are housed in each unit.
00:43The barracks, which were set up in under three months, also have shower facilities, a canteen
00:48and a medical centre.
00:51I've been in the army for 40 years and I've never seen anything like this.
00:55Since the Second World War, this is the biggest base that's been set up in Paris.
01:00In tents are operation centres to supervise the opening ceremony due to take place on
01:06the banks of the Seine.
01:08So it goes from securing the site, based on whether there's a stampede, to if there's
01:12an attack.
01:14Soldiers currently on mission here continue to train, and in this case neutralise an attacker.
01:21We'll be patrolling, giving out information, securing sites.
01:29We need to be present at key locations, be mobile, be dissuasive but reassuring.
01:34In total, 15,000 soldiers will be deployed during the course of the Games.
01:39In addition to 30,000 police officers and gendarmes per day, with a peak of 45,000 for
01:46the opening ceremony.
