00:00Cities across the northeast of the US remain in a state of emergency following a winter
00:04storm that pummeled the region on Monday. Some 400,000 homes have been left without
00:09power as the so-called nor'easter hit states including New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island
00:15and New Jersey. Airports ground to a halt as some 7,400 flights were cancelled with
00:21another 2,300 delayed.
00:23My first flight was out of Newark yesterday night. Cancelled. Rebooked for this morning
00:28in Philadelphia. Cancelled.
00:30In New York, public transport systems have struggled to cope with the blizzard. The subway
00:35and buses were partially suspended across the city, while the Long Island Railroad, the busiest
00:40commuter railroad in North America, saw a full shutdown.
00:43I will say like the melted snow, maybe it is a bit hard to get over because we were trying
00:47to cross, but then we couldn't find like an area where it was like flat or we didn't know
00:52how high the snow was.
00:54Now the snow is expected to start to ease, but the restoration of power and public services
00:59across the region could take days.
