00:00Leeds United have confirmed the sale of 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur,
00:06with previously on loan central defender Joe Roden heading back to Elland Road in a separate
00:10deal.
00:11Gray departs the club having made his debut in the season opener against Cardiff City
00:14last term, aged just 17, and at £40m is among Leeds' record sales.
00:19Roden, meanwhile, arrives for £10m and will join up with the squad ahead of the 2024-25
00:26as Leeds seek to return to the Premier League at the second time of asking.
00:30Roden is understood to have had interest from Premier League clubs this summer, but always
00:34preferred a return to Elland Road, where he found a home last season.
00:37The club say Gray has been sold reluctantly in order to give the Whites the best chance
00:41of building a competitive squad.
00:43A club statement on Tuesday July 2nd read,
00:45Whilst we understand that supporters will be hugely disappointed to lose such a home-grown
00:49talent and a family name so synonymous with Leeds United, the move improves the club's
00:53chance to compete for a more automatic promotion next season by increasing our ability to build
00:58a competitive squad within the league's financial control regulations.
01:02Everyone at Leeds United is heartbroken to see one of our own depart and would like to
01:06thank Archie for all his efforts and professionalism.
01:09He leaves with the best wishes for his future career and in the knowledge that Leeds will
01:13always be his home.
01:14As a result of this player plus cash deal, Leeds are not expected to face sporting or
01:18financial sanctions relating to the submission of their financial accounts for the three-year
01:23accounting period ending June 30th, 2024.
