Spanish police end search for UK teenager in Tenerife

Spanish police say they've called off a search for a British teenager who went missing on the Canary island of Tenerife on June 17, though the case remains open. His phone was last traced to a steep and rugged ravine on the island. - REUTERS

00:13There are several lines of investigation, a Civil Guard spokesperson told Reuters. Slater,

00:18aged 19, was on holiday on the island when he went missing. His phone was last traced

00:24to the Masca ravine, in a remote national park in the north of the island. He was last

00:29heard from when he called a friend to tell her he was thirsty, lost and had little battery

00:34left on his phone, British media reported.

00:37Dozens of police officers, rescue teams and firefighters have been looking since then

00:42in the steep valley, using dogs, drones and a helicopter. On Saturday, experienced volunteers

00:49and members of the public joined rescue teams searching the rugged terrain.
