00:00From El Mundo, Spain. You were in Madrid this year, scoring so many goals, and scoring goals
00:11in the last minute. What are the feelings today?
00:15It's a feeling that is like no other. I think in international football, in knockout football,
00:35it's even a worse feeling because you're 30 seconds from going home, having to listen
00:41to all the rubbish, feeling like you've let a nation of people down, and in 30 seconds
00:47or in one kick of the ball, everything can change. It's a feeling that I don't like to
00:53be in, but when it's done, it feels great. It's a habit I've picked up from Madrid. Obviously
01:00my game has improved a lot since I've joined, and I'm really grateful I could bring it to
01:03this game.
01:08When you celebrated, you seemed to shout, who else? Does that come from the fact you've
01:16picked up a knack of scoring these late goals, or is it a vision you had in your head?
01:25I think the adrenaline gets you, but it's a combination of a lot of things. Playing
01:30for England is an enjoyable feeling, but it's also a lot of pressure. You hear people talk
01:33a lot of rubbish, and it's nice that when you deliver, you can give them a little bit
01:39back. It's very difficult in press conferences and interviews and things like that to talk
01:45as openly as footballers want to, because they're always judged. For me, football and
01:50being on the pitch, scoring goals, celebrating is my release. It was maybe a message to a
01:54few people, but it was a very happy moment and full of adrenaline.
02:01Is that the best goal of your career?
02:05Probably, yes. It's got to be up there anyway. There's a few nice ones, ones that mean a
02:10lot to me personally, like my first goal for Birmingham, for Dortmund and Madrid. They're
02:16always special ones, but I think it's one that's right up there. It's so important in
02:20terms of today and the mood change if it doesn't happen. It's definitely up there.
02:30How does a comeback like that and the feeling you get from it, can that really be a moment
02:34that kick-starts the rest of the tournament for you now?
02:38Yes, definitely. I think besides their goal, I thought we were pretty good, to be honest.
02:43We had a lot of control. We got into really good areas. We were dangerous. I think we
02:47still had one or two moments where we could be a little bit more clinical, but in general,
02:50I thought it was a good performance from us. Obviously, the main thing that we've done
02:54was show character. That's something that I think in the qualifying games, it's difficult
02:59to replicate because the opposition sometimes are of a different level and they come to
03:04Wembley with a different style, for example. Also, there's a lot of chances to redeem it
03:09if you don't get a great result, but I think in knockout football, when you can produce
03:12a moment like that and everyone looks around at each of them and realises, wow, that's
03:16the spirit we actually have got in that team, it can help a lot. Also, you don't experience
03:21things like that if you don't have the adversity of the two draws, if you don't have the adversity
03:25of going 1-0 down. It's brilliant because it shows a reaction.
03:29Jude, you mentioned about the rubbish a couple of times there. Just wondering what you meant
03:35by that and whether it's annoyed you or what exactly has annoyed you?
03:39I think you know what I mean by the rubbish. Like I said, playing for England, it should
03:44be one of the most proud things of a footballer's career, but often at times it is quite difficult.
03:52There's really high, intense pressure. The fans expect a lot from us, regardless of what
03:59happened in recent tournaments years and years ago. People talk a lot. I think you do have
04:06to take it personally a little bit. We work so hard at this game. We come in and we train
04:11every day so hard to try and put on performances for the fans. Sometimes it doesn't go well
04:15and sometimes it feels like there's a bit of a pile on. It's not nice to hear, but you
04:20can always use it for moments like that. It's nice to throw it back to some people, I suppose.
04:27Jude, you said it was probably the best goal of your career, but in terms of moments that
04:33you've had, spontaneous moments, where does it rank?
04:36It's got to be up there again. I think it's 30, 20 seconds until we're out of the European
04:44Championship. Like I said, the mood in comparison to now that it would have been is a massive
04:50difference and what it can do for the team going forward. I think it's hard to deny that
04:55it was one of the most important moments of my career so far. We'll see though. It's still
05:01a long tournament and it's only really very important if we go on to win the Cup. We'll
05:07decide in the next two weeks how important it is.
05:09Thank you very much.
05:10Cheers, everyone. Have a good evening.
