00:01Paul, we're here at the Co-op Live. What does Pep Guardiola mean to Manchester City?
00:08Oh, it means everything. You know, the incredible success he's had in ten years.
00:12He's there for him to see and, you know, when he first joined the club ten years ago,
00:17I think if he had asked him and anybody else that he was still going to be here ten years
00:20later,
00:21they probably thought he was a bit mad because the talk at the time was that
00:24Pep was only staying for two years and then he got to five years and that was it, he was
00:29done.
00:30So the fact that ten years in 2012 is an incredible achievement.
00:35What sort of legacy does he lead? I mean, has he set a standard that City now have to keep
00:40following?
00:41He has, and he leads to the top. You know, he's arguably the best manager
00:45Manchester City have had, if not in the Premier League, in English football.
00:51The standard he set, you know, it seems, you know, after the treble winning season
00:55and winning the four in a row and the quadruple, it seems a lot of people have
00:59thinking that was undone. But how he managed to turn it back round and build other teams
01:03to be even more successful sometimes, you know, just shows you what a legacy that he's leading.
01:10Bernardo and Jon Stones are also going. Jon's been a stalwart, maybe not sure what's last season,
01:16but Bernardo's been an ever-present. How big a loss is Bernardo?
01:21Yeah, he's just a wonderful player, you know, and I think especially over the last few years,
01:26he's been the driving force behind a lot of the performances, you know.
01:29He came in as an attacking midfielder slash white man. You know, I think he's probably played every position,
01:36apart from goalkeeper in centre half since he's been in. And he's just a real leader in how he plays
01:40and drags the team through. He's work great, he's enthusiasm, as a lesson to everybody else and his teammates,
01:47and he drags them through sometimes. And, you know, Jon Stones is just an incredible footballer, you know.
01:53And, for me, and this is saying a lot about Jon Stones, you know, we've been so lucky to have
01:57Kevin De Bruyne
01:58and David Silva, Sergio Aguero. Jon Stones is my favourite player.
02:03I just, that Champions League performance win, I think. That he beat the record for more dribbles than Lionel Messi
02:10than for a centre half was just completely off the scale. And you can see how much the prop means
02:15to both of them and Pep
02:16by how emotional he was yesterday.
02:19What do you see for the future of Manchester City?
02:22Well, it's going to be tough. It's big shoes to fill, stating the obvious.
02:27And people are already comparing it to when Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester United
02:31and, to a certain extent, when Arsene Wenger left Arsenal, purely for the amount of time he'd been there.
02:38I think the difference with Man City at the minute is the set-up behind the scenes
02:43and the structure behind the organisation that are not just the football club.
02:48You know, from the first team to the academy to the women's team, everything's set up for somebody to come
02:53in and be successful.
02:54I'm not saying it's going to be as easy as that, but a new manager is obviously going to want
02:58his own way of thinking.
03:01But from the players to the training ground to the stadium, everything's set up for success for somebody to come
03:05in.
03:05It's the continuity of the club, isn't it?
03:08It's from the under-sixes all the way up. There's a philosophy that's drilled into the club.
03:14It is.
03:14So the support the club will give the new guys.
03:18In the case of holding the fans, giving them a little bit of patience.
03:22Well, Wayne, we've just got to think back. You know, I remember when Vincent Kompany left and Fernandinho and David
03:29Silva and Aguero and De Bruyne.
03:32That was the end. You know, the fans were like, how are we going to replace them? How are we
03:35going to get better?
03:37And somehow, they've a structure in place on the recruitment side for these players to be replaced and still going
03:42to be as successful as they were in the first place.
03:44And I'm sure that's the case at the minute.
03:47Who's your favourite player of the Guardiola ring?
03:50Wow, what a question that is. I've obviously mentioned Johnny Stones there.
03:58It's got to be Kevin De Bruyne.
04:00What a wonderful player.
04:02Wonderful player. But we've been so spoiled. The names I've just mentioned there as well.
04:07I know exactly. And then the score as well. You think of all the other players. Thank you for your
04:11time.
04:11Cheers, thank you.
04:12I can see you having a freak out there. Good to see you, mate.
04:15You're looking really well.
04:18Take care. Look after yourself. Have a good night.
