00:27What is that?
00:30Congratulations on achieving something or what happened in the game, what is your emotion after that?
00:37Yeah, like you said, I think a mixed feeling on the one side, worse timing for that kind of performance.
00:43On the other side, when you reflect the season and you take the overall season,
00:47then it's definitely an achievement because we are bright and we are second time now in Europe,
00:53so that's why we should see it more as an achievement.
00:58Do you understand that you've only been at the club for a short amount of time,
01:04but you will know about the history and so a day like today is almost still unbelievable,
01:12even though the club is a completely different club to the one that you joined?
01:18That's why I think it's very important to see where we came from and to see our development in the
01:24last years,
01:26to see the players working hard to improve.
01:30The club always tries to find small steps where we can get the most potential from everyone.
01:37So I see that the daily business from the players, I see how hard they're working for this achievement,
01:42and that's why I think it's another milestone in the history from this club.
01:46It's another great individual achievement from the players and therefore, like I said,
01:52we should be proud of the overall season.
01:54For you in particular, was qualification for Europe something that you were determined to do?
02:06I don't try to replicate the achievements from the coaches here before,
02:11because Roberto De Serbi was a great coach for Brighton.
02:15He achieved unbelievable things with this club,
02:17and he set the base, the foundation for all the success that we could have in the last two years.
02:25And therefore, we finished last season eight, we finished now eight,
02:29and that shows that we are consistent in this area where we can challenge the establishment,
02:35and that's also what we should do for the following years.
02:40Can I just start with the bad first before the very good?
02:45Can you put your finger on that performance?
02:52Yeah, it's difficult to find one particular reason why we had this performance.
02:58I think overall we started well, we created moments,
03:02then of course there was one corner, and then we conceded the goal,
03:06and I think the bad thing from us was that we didn't react well to the goals we conceded,
03:10we didn't stay in our structure, we tried to immediately react to things,
03:14and normally we should stay calm, but we stay calm, we act, we try to stick to our game,
03:18so that's what we didn't expect from us.
03:22So you have these kind of days, like I said, it was the worst timing for these kind of performances,
03:27but in two or three days after I reflect everything, after I calmed a little bit down,
03:33then I will try to see as well the positives, and there are also plenty of positives from this season.
03:38And the second thing is, the Europa Conference League is a new thing for this club,
03:43and it's a new thing for you, so what do you make of that?
03:46Yeah, it's another great opportunity to prove how far we are as a team,
03:50to make the next step, of course it's a new experience, we will face different teams,
03:55but like I said, we have to face this opportunity with a lot of positivity,
04:01with a great togetherness, with a good work ethic, and then we see what happens and where it takes us.
04:07Fabian, how much are you looking forward to expanding the squad a little bit in terms of taking that next
04:12step,
04:12and you're able to compensate in terms of it as well, what do you think of that year in the
04:17summer?
04:18Yeah, it's important now, like I said, to analyse the squad, to get an understanding of what was good,
04:23what was bad, what do we need, where do we need to have improvements,
04:26we have some contracts running out, so this will be a lot of planning for the next season,
04:32but like I said, we are well-structured at the club, I really trust Tony and Paul and Mike and
04:39Jason,
04:40that we will do the right steps, what is important for the club,
04:44and then I'm looking forward for this challenge.
04:45Can I just ask you about your first players, James Milner,
04:48do you have any clarity on his future?
04:51Yeah, let's wait for the next days, because I think first of all,
04:56we really want to speak about the season, we want to reflect everyone's performance,
05:02and then first of all, I think it's very important that we give every player each individual feedback,
05:07and including this feedback, we will also change on that topic, and then we see what happens.
05:15Fabian, Carlos, for Leeds started the last four matches, but not today.
05:20Can you tell us a bit about that decision and playing and experience,
05:24like you said?
05:27Yeah, I think Carlos struggled a little bit last week in the game against Leeds United,
05:34regarding physicality, regarding his condition, and also during the week he felt quite tired,
05:42so that's why we made this change, we know that Carlos gives us something special,
05:47but overall it was also a decision for experience, like you said,
05:52and trying to bring players on the pitch that were there during the season,
05:57when we had this bad run, I think we should forget this,
06:00so overall I really trusted the team, I trusted everyone who was starting today.
06:05In the end, afterwards, you know more, so you can judge these decisions,
06:11but we went to the game with a lot of conviction.
06:14There was a lot of speculation with Manchester United,
06:18would you still like to work effectively this season?
06:23Would you still like to work with them next season?
06:26What do you see with this change?
06:30100%.
06:30Can I ask you about your season, what's the biggest step forward you think you've taken,
06:34and maybe the biggest one that you haven't managed to take?
06:38That's a good question, I think we face a lot of adversity, a lot of tough periods,
06:42and we always stick together, and I think I always had to believe in this group,
06:46and definitely in these times where it's not that successful,
06:51and you try to fight for getting the right result,
06:54then you really have to stick to your idea, to your principles,
06:57and that's what we did as a team, that's what I did as a coach,
07:01so it's really important to trust the things I'm convinced of,
07:04and therefore I learned a lot regarding this.
07:08The thing I might change is this game today,
07:11so of course we wanted to go to the Europa League,
07:15but in the end, I'm a young coach, I always try to reflect myself,
07:22my decisions, trying to get better, trying to work better with the staff,
07:26work better with the players, so there's always improvement,
07:28and it's a progress, and that's a process also I'm in,
07:31so that's why I think it's so important now to reflect everything,
07:34to see the positive to negative, to be honest to myself,
07:37what was good, what was bad, and I can't point this or that out,
07:42I think it's a process where I will never be 100% satisfied,
07:47that's what I know, because it's just inside of my body,
07:49it's just my attitude to always try to improve things,
07:52so I will analyse it together with my team, together with the club,
07:56and then the main things I try to change,
08:01but also try to keep positive things.
08:03Can you also get back to Yankoub as well,
08:05while he didn't start today?
08:07It was just the team selection,
08:10so of course, Yankoub is a player who helped us a lot in the last weeks,
08:14but that was a decision we made.
