Archeologists Discover Ancient Roman Laundry Facility While Excavating for Construction Project

Ancient Rome. It was no doubt a sight to behold and was the pinnacle of civilization during its height. Now, during excavations for a new road project in the aged city, experts have unearthed new ruins from around two millennia ago.

00:17This is what archaeologists say are the remains of an ancient Roman laundry, discovered just

00:21a few feet away from Vatican City.

00:23They say it was originally a private imperial treasury that overlooked the river and gardens

00:28when they once flowed closer to this area.

00:30However, they were eventually converted into an open-air laundry facility, complete with

00:34washing tanks and other relics.

00:36Experts say this is quite interesting, as this type of building repurposing generally

00:40didn't happen until later in Roman history.

00:42They say the treasury building was converted between the end of the 2nd century AD and

00:47first half of the 3rd century AD.

00:49The site will now be moved and preserved.

00:52This is just the latest archaeological find in Rome, as the storied city no doubt has

00:56many more secrets buried just beneath its surface.
