A charity golf day at Mile End Golf Club in Oswestry was raising much needed funds for the League of friends at Shrewsbury Hospital. They do great work in helping to fund the latest up to date equipment for staff to use.

00:00How you doing guys? We're here at League of Friends Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and
00:05it's your annual charity golf day. It is, it's the first one we've done in a few
00:10years and really pleased to see we've got 24 teams playing for us today which
00:15is a great result. And I don't want to jinx it but you know I can see blue sky
00:19the weather's doing its thing isn't it yeah? It is, considering what it's been like this summer I feel really happy with the weather today.
00:27Sue, what's your role with the League of Friends? Well I'm chairman of the
00:30fundraising committee at the moment, it's a two-year job and I'm just finishing my
00:36first year now. And Richard, you're? I've just re-elected unanimously. You're chairman?
00:42I'm chairman yeah, I normally do a three-year but I'm doing a next year because we are
00:46doing some big changes this year and I just wanted to sit around to help take
00:49the board through the changes. And then you'll be handling? I will be
00:53resigning next year. And is it normally at this club here when you have done them in the past?
00:59Yes, we have done them in the past here and they're always very supportive, it's great and everyone's very happy to come out here for the day.
01:07And so we got we got 24 teams of four and there's a special competition for the
01:12yellow ball I understand as well? That's right, it's a little bit of pressure for
01:16the person who has the yellow ball there but that's fine. Well we saw Wonga
01:20straight off into the bush. It's all good fun and it's just raising raising money for the League of Friends.
01:29Well yeah, League of Friends, I mean obviously the Shropshire Star did stuff with you but I guess we should, yeah, what do League of Friends do for the hospital?
01:37What is League of Friends all about? We primarily raise money for equipment and we, the current ethos is
01:43trying to use equipment that is beyond the Trust's expense that we can help them
01:48do that. To attract the best medics, the best nursing staff, the best support staff and you know the
01:54patient ultimately. I think people forget that don't they? Obviously to have the
01:58latest equipment is great for the patient but like you say it does, that
02:03plays a part in getting the best staff to come and sign up for your team sort of thing doesn't it?
02:06We recently funded some ventilators for ITU and we asked the consultant would it
02:11attract any sister come in? Of course it will because that's the first thing they'll see.
02:14They list on the sort of job CV now what equipment they're using and that will attract people.
02:19Yeah, yeah. So are you going around, you doing a round today Sue? You're a golfer.
02:24I am going out, so I'll be doing the pressure shot over there in a couple of hours, yep.
02:30And Richard, what are you going? I keep telling everyone I'm too young, not old enough to start golfing.
02:35So you'll be halfway round with the squashes? Yes. Cheers guys, thank you. Thank you very much.
