00:00The United States' goal of organizing the Citgo auction has already received formal
00:16bids for the Venezuelan oil refinery.
00:20In Palestine, Israeli occupation troops continue shelling different areas in Gaza killing dozens
00:26of civilians.
00:31In South Africa, zero gram of fossa was thrown in as president after being re-elected by
00:35the country's parliament.
00:43Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesus Studios
00:47in Havana, Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news.
00:49As denounced by the President of the Venezuelan General Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, the United
00:53States' goal of organizing the Citgo auction has already received formal bids.
00:58In this sense, the Vitol Business Group, the largest independent oil operator in the world,
01:03confirmed that it is on the list of companies that submitted bids for the Venezuelan refinery
01:07Citgo Petroleum Corporation.
01:09It legally handed over to the United States by the fugitive Juan GuaidĂł and a long list
01:13of accomplices that includes Leopoldo LĂłpez, MarĂa Corina Machado and Ignacio HernĂĄndez,
01:18the alleged prosecutor who facilitated the looting.
01:21Should be noted that the Vitol Group has been linked to corruption scandals in Mexico
01:25and Ecuador.
01:32The government of Venezuela has strongly rejected the process of expropriation of the company
01:37Citgo Petroleum Corporation, which continues to be carried out by the United States authorities
01:41under the pretext of a judicial process of a forced sale of shares, clearly contrary
01:46to the law.
01:47Through her ex-account, Venezuelan Vice President Dulce Rodriguez expressed her rejection of
01:51the theft of Citgo instrumentalized by the U.S. government.
01:54She added that Venezuela would not recognize any type of fraudulent transaction and that
01:58the people, in a great national union, would defend their patrimony and apply implacable
02:03justice to those who plotted this plunder against the Republic.
02:11The Chinese government rejected Tuesday the takeover of the Venezuelan subsidiary Citgo
02:15by the U.S. government and the far-right.
02:17The spokesman for the People's Republic of China, Lin Yang, ratified that his country
02:22is opposed to the illegal sanctions imposed by the U.S. government against the Venezuelan
02:25people and demanded that Washington should not interfere in Venezuela's affairs.
02:29Lin Yang said that such actions go against international law and that the forced sale
02:34of Citgo constitutes a new aggression by the institutions of the imperialist government
02:38of the United States against Venezuela.
02:46Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Hill rejected the statements made by U.S. Undersecretary
02:49of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols.
02:53Nichols referred to the situation in the country as worrisome for the period leading up to
02:57the July 28th elections.
02:59On social media, ex-Ivan Hill said the following.
03:02Mr. Nichols returns with his vulgar obsession to offend Venezuelans, mentioning in matters
03:07that do not correspond to him.
03:09It seems that the defeat that his puppets have written on their foreheads causes him
03:13more anguish than ever.
03:15Your attempts to interfere in our process will be as effective as the policies of your
03:18government, which are a complete failure.
03:21Our recommendation is that you write a post to be published when you have to comfort the
03:25defeat of the far-right that you promote.
03:35In other news, on Tuesday, President of Cuba Miguel DĂaz-Canel inaugurated the International
03:39Exhibition of Cuba Industria 2024.
03:42The opening of the event's fourth edition took place at the Pavexpo Fairgrounds in Havana.
03:48As part of this program, the exhibition will host the international convention and a fair
03:51that is expected to be attended by at least 1,200 participants, including 108 foreigners
03:57from 22 countries.
03:59Cuba Industria 2024 will last until Friday, June 21st, and among its main goals are achieving
04:04greater integration and international insertion of the country in the industrial field and
04:09strengthening alliances.
04:14To expand the use of available industrial capacities.
04:17To be able to find strategic alliances, commercial and productive, with the objective of increasing
04:22industrial production to meet the demand of the economy and the demand for exports.
04:28Moving on to Argentina, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk
04:33said that President Javier Mele's government cuts threatened to undermine human rights
04:37protection in the South American country.
04:39Turk also referred to the suspension of policies for women and the attacks on freedom of expression,
04:45confirming that some of the decisions of Javier Mele's government put at risk the fundamental
04:48guarantees in Argentina.
04:50The High Commissioner called on the Argentine authorities to place human rights at the center
04:54of policymaking to build a more inclusive society.
05:02In Argentina, the judge released 11 of the 16 people who remain in detention after security
05:07forces arbitrarily detained most of the 33 demonstrators who had come to Congress through
05:12protests against the law of basis last Wednesday.
05:15Judge Maria Cervini's ruling came just after relatives of the detainees, together with
05:19social, political and trade union organizations, demonstrated on Tuesday in Plaza de Mayo to
05:24demand the release of those who remain in custody.
05:2628 people have already been released by Cervini, despite Federal Prosecutor Carlos Tornelli's
05:31intention to keep them under arrest, under alleged fabricated charges.
05:35However, five people still remain detained.
05:42And deputies of the Union for the Homeland in Argentina held the Minister of Security,
05:46Patricia Bullrich, responsible for the use by police of tear gas against peaceful demonstrators
05:53over the law of basis.
05:55The criminal complaint was filed Tuesday by the deputies who refuted Bullrich's main
05:59argument that demonstrators were blocking the streets.
06:01According to the document, it was the security forces who had blocked the streets under the
06:06minister's orders.
06:07On the other hand, the deputies announced that the events have already been reported
06:11to local, regional and international human rights agencies and organizations both from
06:15the OAS and the United Nations.
06:18And finally, the Government of Argentina reiterated on Tuesday before the United Nations its historical
06:27sovereign claim of the Malvinas, South Georgias, South Sandwich and the surrounding maritime
06:32areas.
06:33In a session of the UN Special Committee on Decolonization, the Minister of Foreign Affairs,
06:38Diana Mondino, left no room for doubt about the official position of the Argentine state
06:43regarding these enclaves currently administered by the United Kingdom.
06:47In this sense, Mondino declared that it has now been 191 years since the beginning of
06:51the illegal occupation of the islands by the United Kingdom.
06:55She also argumented that time has in no way diminished the validity of their claim nor
06:59modified their conviction that this prolonged dispute should be resolved peacefully through
07:04bilateral negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom.

07:56Welcome back.
08:00On Wednesday, Israeli Genocidal forces launched overnight airstrikes on the Al-Mawasi humanitarian
08:05area in western Rafa, Sheikh Rahwan and the Al-Saudi towns in Gaza City.
08:09Following the Israeli attacks, Palestinian civil defense teams retrieved at least seven
08:13bodies and found many injured under the rubble in northern Gaza.
08:17Houses were devastated by the heavy fire from drones, turning the Al-Mawasi alleged safe
08:21area into an insecure place.
08:23Gaza authorities continue to demand Israel to release 310 health workers subdued to torture
08:29and urge for opening an international case file to find out the whereabouts of many of
08:33the abducted Palestinian health personnel.
08:35Some Gazan witnesses of those airstrikes share their experiences.
08:43After a residential unit for the Abu Safiya family was targeted, we recovered bodies of
08:47some martyrs and wounded and we took them to Al-Mahmoudani Medical Complex.
08:51Most of them were in remains and some women were burned as a result of the Israeli bombing
08:55on the apartment.
08:57I was asleep and arrived here after hearing the strike and found out that the house of
09:01the Abu Safiya family caught fire and was destroyed.
09:04There were approximately 40 people in the house.
09:08In Switzerland, the Human Rights Council of the United Nations is discussing the Gaza
09:11conflict investigation elaborated by its experts.
09:14In this context, they are debating six operations linked to the Israeli occupation army which
09:18the International Independent Commission of Inquiry denounces as a systematic violation
09:22of the laws of war.
09:24Precisely, according to the UN investigation, Israeli bombs up to 920 kilograms were used
09:31against residential buildings, a school, refugee camps and a market, while her partner, Commission
09:36Chair Nevi Pillay, who served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights
09:41from 2008 to 2014, stated that Israel's actions are an intentioned and direct attack against
09:46the civilian population of Gaza.
09:52In relation to Israel's military operations and attacks in Gaza from 7th October, we conclude
10:00that Israeli authorities are responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity and violations
10:07of international, humanitarian and human rights law, including extermination, intentionally
10:16directing attacks against civilians and civilian objects, murder or willful killing, using
10:24starvation as a method of war, forcible transfer, gender persecution targeting Palestinian men
10:32and boys, sexual and gender-based violence amounting to torture and cruel or inhuman
10:39treatment.
10:40U.S. President Joe Biden announced two new executive actions that will allow thousands
10:46of immigrants who have been living in the country for at least a decade to obtain legal
10:50permanent residency so that they can formally contribute to the U.S. economy.
10:54The first of these initiatives will allow people married to U.S. citizens to avail themselves
11:00of a remedy known as Parole in Place, which protects immigrants from deportation and allows
11:05them to obtain work permits if they have lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years.
11:09Through this route, undocumented immigrants could apply for residency and eventually citizenship.
11:14The White House explained in a press release that this action will protect approximately
11:17half a million spouses of U.S. citizens.
11:30In Iran, authorities reported a 5.0 magnitude earthquake in the town of Kashmar, some 800
11:43kilometers east of the capital Tehran.
11:45As a result of the geological event, four people died and 120 others were injured.
11:49Recurrent and official said rescue teams were deployed to the region and three temporary
11:54camps were set up.
11:56The earthquake originated approximately 5 kilometers from Morgan in the Razavi, Khorasan
12:00province with Iranian media reporting it occurred at a depth of 6 kilometers.
12:05Iran relies on major seismic faults and experiences one earthquake a day on average.
12:09One of the deadliest to date occurred in 2003 when a magnitude 6.6 earthquake flattened
12:15the historic city of Bam, killing 26,000 people.
12:25In Bangladesh, authorities reported a landslide caused by heavy rains left at least nine dead
12:30in the southeast of the country.
12:31Authorities implemented measures for the care of the affected people, especially Ujika refugees
12:36located in Cox Bazaars.
12:38At the same time, they ordered the preventive evacuation of the Rohingyas population due
12:42to the risk of landslides.
12:43The Commission for Refugees and Returnees, Mohamad Samsudusa, confirmed that refugee
12:48camps No. 9 and 10 were affected.
12:50Close to 1.2 million Rohingyas arrived in the country, most of them fleeing the heavy
12:54military crackdown in 2017 by the Myanmar army.
13:03The Government of Brazil approved a timetable to reduce pollution and meet the air quality
13:07standards set by the World Health Organization.
13:09The resolution approved by the National Environmental Council includes an investment of up to $30
13:14million between 2025 and 2026 to create inventories, build monitoring stations and implement actions
13:22to improve air quality.
13:24In this sense, the initiative foresees that air quality will be monitored by the authorities
13:28and adapted to protect the health of the population and the environment in Brazil.
13:38The Venezuelan Bolivarian National Guard maintains an active deployment in national parks and
13:42monuments as part of the protection plans against criminal groups that practice illegal
13:46mining.
13:47Chief General Domenico HernĂĄndez LĂĄrez detailed that the armed forces are also deployed in
13:52the forest, hydraulic and biosphere reserves to maintain environmental security.
13:57He also reminded the population that it is prohibited within the national parks to develop
14:01mining, hydrocarbon exploitation, agricultural crops in general and forest exploitation.
14:06In this context, he affirmed that it is a citizen's duty to abide by the national laws
14:10or else the organizations that violate the law and the national sovereignty will be dismantled.

15:00On Wednesday in South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa was sworn in as president after being re-elected
15:05by the country's parliament.
15:06According to the Minister of the Presidency, Kumbutsu Shadveni, the nation's constitution
15:12stipulates that the president must be sworn in within five days of his election by the
15:16legislature.
15:17In this sense, on June 15th, Ramaphosa received 283 votes from the newly elected parliamentarians
15:22of the general elections held on May 29th.
15:25In turn, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters Party, Julius Malema, received only
15:3044 votes from the legislators.
15:32The inauguration ceremony brought together South Africans of all backgrounds, lifestyles
15:36and political orientations united to celebrate Ramaphosa's new term.
15:44In this moment, we must choose to move forward, to close the distances between South Africans
15:51and to build a more equal society, to translate the promise of our constitution and the vision
15:59of the Freedom Charter into a reality for all.
16:04This moment requires extraordinary courage and leadership.
16:10It requires a common mission to safeguard national unity, peace, stability, inclusive
16:19economic growth, non-racialism and non-sexism.
16:28This Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea.
16:30Putin, alongside North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, announced an important new national agreement.
16:35The agreement is a strategic partnership treaty of a peaceful and defensive nature, ratified
16:40by both heads of states.
16:41According to Kim Jong-un, this treaty will become a driving force that will accelerate
16:45the creation of a new multi-polar world.
16:47President Putin, before leaving for Vietnam, the next destination on his Asian tour, described
16:52the agreement as a groundbreaking document.
16:56Today, we are fighting together against the hegemony and neo-colonial practices of the
17:03United States and its satellites.
17:07We are grateful to the leadership and people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea
17:11for their balanced position on the situation in Ukraine.
17:15Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Serian Warbin Ibrahim confirmed that the official
17:21process of his country's accession to the BRICS Group will begin shortly.
17:25The Malaysian government is basing its decision on the fact that the Strait of Malacca is
17:30an important transport route connecting the south of the eastern Pacific Ocean with the
17:34Bay of Bengal, where India, Bangladesh and Thailand, among others, have their shores.
17:38The BRICS bloc originated with the formation of the countries that define its acronyms
17:43Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
17:46However, as of January 1, 2024, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and the
17:51United Arab Emirates are part of the bloc.
17:53Malaysia, Thailand has also expressed its intention to join the organization.
18:04The United Nations has raised all alarms regarding the situation in Sudan, assuring that civilians
18:09are currently in the line of fire and with no safe places.
18:12The Under-Secretary-General of the UN Department of Political Affairs, Marfa Popi, artifies
18:16that immediate ceasefire is imperative to avoid new atrocities.
18:20The UN has responsible both the army and the rapid support forces for the numerous
18:24war crimes and for instigating the ethnic tension.
18:28On the other hand, humanitarian organizations regard what is happening in Sudan as an ethnic
18:33cleansing and atrocious war that shows no limit.
18:42The Democratic Republic of the Congo's sexual violence against women and girls is on the
18:46rise in the midst of the escalating armed conflict.
18:49In a report in the framework of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence
18:53in Conflicts, the United Nations showed a response on bail that only in the North Kibo
18:58province more than 38,000 cases of sexual violence were denounced in the first quarter
19:03of 2023, a 37 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022.
19:07UNICEF also warned of an alarming 50 percent global increase of these crimes in context
19:12of conflicts.
19:14In this context, it is important to consider that only a small number of victims report
19:18these types of attacks for fear of reprisal, stigma and potential impunity for the perpetrators.
19:40On Wednesday in Germany, the EuroCup 2024 kicks off the second round of the competition's
19:45group stage.
19:46The host team's match against Hungary is one of the three matches that will be played
19:49at the beginning of the second qualifying round.
19:51After one week of tournaments, the German team leads its group, followed by Switzerland
19:55with one victory while the rest of the group are led by the teams of Spain, England, Netherlands,
20:01Romania and Turkey.
20:02During this stage, the first two teams from each group will qualify for the next round
20:06to go with the four-best third-places team.
20:14After each team has played at least one match, there are many elements to be taken into account
20:19that begin to point towards contenders for the trophy.
20:21In this way, we note that 37 goals have been scored in 13 matches and an average of 2.85
20:27goals per match.
20:28The destination with the most goals is Germany, with five, while the players with the most
20:31assistance are Denis Man of Romania and Nathan Ake of the Netherlands, with two units.
20:37On the other side, the best goalkeepers are Dominic Jokic of Croatia and Nishtanik of
20:42Seixas, who shared seven saves.
20:45Otherwise, the defeats of Croatia and Belgium are the biggest disappointments of this young
20:50tournament, as Croatia is winless after two matches.
