David Crisafulli's budget reply speech unveils major housing policy

Abolishing stamp duty for first home buyers is among a raft of housing policies unveiled by the Queensland state opposition leader David Crisafulli.

00:13 David Crisofoli used his budget reply speech to unveil a major housing policy.

00:18 He's promising if elected, an LNP government will raise the stamp duty threshold to $700,000

00:25 for first home buyers who purchase an existing property.

00:28 The tax will be scrapped for first home buyers who build or buy a new home.

00:33 We are abolishing a tax.

00:40 Well, he's announced $400 million in unfunded stamp duty cuts.

00:44 So let's hear how David Crisofoli is going to fund that.

00:47 The LNP will also set up a shared equity scheme to assist aspiring homeowners to close the deposit gap.

00:54 The party will commit to building one million new homes and 53,000 social homes by 2044.

01:06 While we welcome a bipartisan approach to social housing targets and funding for specialist homelessness services,

01:13 we need more to be done for renters.

01:16 If elected, the LNP will also dump Labor's proposed Pioneer Burdekin pumped hydro project near Mackay,

01:23 the controversial project is a critical part of the state government's energy plan

01:28 and reaching ambitious renewable and emission reduction targets.

01:32 The LNP will investigate opportunities for smaller, more manageable pumped hydro projects.

01:39 That is the bottom line of renewable energy.

01:41 So if you take that out of the system, the whole clean energy future of Queensland collapses.

01:47 This was a major speech for the opposition leader where he outlined a raft of policies the LNP will take to the polls.
