00:00The bus crash triggered an outpouring of grief from across the country and even the world
00:0612 months ago.
00:07But since then, as the days have rolled on, the families who lost a loved one and the
00:12survivors are still coming to terms with what happened.
00:16There's no official public memorial being held today to mark the 12-month anniversary,
00:21as the families and those impacted want to grieve and reflect in private.
00:26This tragic event has really left an impact on the wider community and the emergency personnel.
00:32The family obviously is still in pieces over the traumatic events that happened last year.
00:40The wider community is still very much on their minds also.
00:43At the end of the day, we delivered amazing care on the night, as tragic as it was, but
00:52you really feel for some of the staff that aren't travelling so well.
00:56And that really weighs on me.
01:00The memorial garden behind me only opened a couple of days ago.
01:04It's been set up as a safe place for people to come and reflect and remember the lives lost.
01:10It includes 10 ornamental pear trees, one for each of the lives lost in this tragedy.
01:17This site is about a kilometre from the crash site.
01:21Over at the crash site, there's also a memorial garden, which was set up by family members
01:26who lost someone in this tragedy.
01:29Over there, there are beautiful flowers, angel statues and a sign that says Forever Loved.
01:36Now here at this memorial garden this morning, we've seen politicians turn up to lay flowers
01:42and wreaths and pay their respects to each of the people who lost their life in this tragedy.
01:49And one of those politicians was the Federal Hunter MP, Dan Repicoli, and he said that
01:55the families and the community will be forever grieving about this tragedy.
02:00I think they will never get over the grief from this.
02:03Community will deal with this in so many different ways, and as people deal with this grief,
02:09they will have people around them that can help them and support them and make sure if
02:12this is actually, you do need some help, make sure you reach out and get the help you need.
02:16Even if it's just talking to a friend or talking to a work colleague, just start by actually talking.
02:21As for the bus driver who was behind the wheel of that charter bus on the night of this crash,
02:26he returns to court in two days' time when a sentencing date is expected to be set.
02:33But as for families and the community today, it's about reflecting and grieving in whichever
02:41way they choose, and for many people, that's in private.
