Your reflections on teachers and teaching

The number of empty teaching posts has more than doubled in 3 years - why do you think this is and what can be done to reverse the trend?

00:00I know particularly of one teacher who had a child threatening to kill her, this is in a primary school,

00:06and she called the parents in and the parents' response was, well, you shouldn't have wound him up.

00:12So, based on that sort of information, I'm not surprised that they are leaving and not wanting to stay.

00:19And I don't think it's the money particularly, I think it's the conditions that they've got to work under.

00:25Children come to school and they're not toilet trained, they can't eat properly.

00:30I think teachers have got it, just in my opinion, relatively quite, not easy per se,

00:36because there are definitely challenging aspects of the job.

00:40There is no way that I could deal with 30, 40 kids across multiple classrooms,

00:47but when you think about it, they do have October half-terms, there's the Easter half-term,

00:54obviously there's the six weeks of summer, which you don't get in most other professions really.
