Merchant's fish and chips on Halesowen Road have been serving up mini fish and chips for National Fish and Chip Day, and to mark eight decades since the Normandy Landings, with proceeds going to the Poppy Appeal.

00:00Hi everyone, it's Lauren at the Express and Star. We're here at Merchants Fish and Chips

00:05to get 1p Fish and Chips on National Fish and Chip Day.

00:08So, they actually opened here two and a half years ago, as I just mentioned. They've got

00:13another shop on Lowe Street in Bewdley and this is a Hell's Owen Road shop. And actually,

00:19they did something similar last year for the King's Coronation. They did half-price fish

00:22and chips. So, I mean, come on, they just want to give cheap fish and chips to the community.

00:27That's what we want. So, today though, it's National Fish and Chip Day and it's 80 years

00:33since the Normandy landings. Merchants Fish and Chips are actually going to be donating

00:36money to the Poppy Appeal as well today. So, if you have a look here, we've got absolutely

00:42loads of people waiting for their 1p Fish and Chips. So, we've got absolutely loads

00:46of people excited for some fish and chips for 1p. There's literally about 100 people

00:54here maybe. So, we're going to give it a try, if we can still get some. Everyone's

01:01really excited, it looks like. And here we are at Merchants. So, if we go in, we can

01:08talk to the manager. And they're actually donating money to the Poppy Appeal today.

01:11How's it been going today? Yeah, it's been so good. The turnout from 11pm onwards has

01:17been crazy. Yeah. As Aggie, the manager, was kind enough to sort me out with a little portion

01:21of fish and chips here for 1p. And look, the queue is absolutely crazy. I came back

01:29into the car to eat it. I'm going to try not to make a mess. But as there was still a queue,

01:35when I got this, I didn't want to eat in front of everyone and be like, look at me and my

01:39fish and chips. No, I was not going to do that. Right, 1p Fish and Chips. It's fresh,

01:46crispy, hot. I mean, it's going to be fresh, isn't it? Because they're literally cooking,

01:53serving, cooking. The pans are always going. And here, let's try a bit of fish.

02:06This is honestly so delicious.

02:10And for 1p, I don't think 1p is the right term, but for one great British penny,

02:19this deliciously fresh, hot fish and chips.

02:27I did tell them, the guys at work, that I would take some back for them, but I don't think I will.
