Cicada season has begun, and some parts of the US are seeing two broods emerge at once. Veuer’s Matt Hoffman reports.

00:00Cicada season is upon us.
00:02These large, loud bugs emerge from underground to mate
00:05once every 17 or 13 years, depending on the species.
00:09This year, there are two broods showing up at the same time.
00:12Brood 13, indicated in brown on this USDA map,
00:15and brood 19, indicated in light blue.
00:18And as you can see, they've got some overlap in the Midwest.
00:21Here in Western Springs, Illinois, Dennis Higgins encountered the cicadas
00:24while taking his grandson, Reese, out for a walk.
00:27It's part of life.
00:29It's a fun thing. It comes once every 17 years,
00:31so I hope I'll be here for the next one.
00:34Right? Right.
00:36Don't be scared, Reese.
00:38These things may look creepy, but they're not dangerous to humans.
