00:00Our country, with diverse culture, religion and traditions, we have journeyed the path
00:21of unity, where every step forward is a testament to our collective strength and harmony.
00:28As the second largest religious population of Malaysia, the Malaysian Buddhist community
00:33has been contributing significantly to the fabric of our nation building.
00:38Keeping unity is our utmost priority so that our future generations can continue to enjoy
00:45a peaceful way of life in Malaysia.
00:49The efforts of the Buddhist community in promoting cultural and social values have enriched our
00:55multi-racial society and fostered inter-ethnic and inter-religious understanding.
01:01The important day of commemorating the birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Buddha
01:07has been recognised as an important national event, where Wesak Day has been declared a
01:12national holiday.
01:14The theme for this year's Wesak celebration is Living Harmoniously, Thriving Society,
01:20to progress forward as a peaceful and stable society, which can only come from an understanding
01:27and harmonious assistance of the people.
01:30The ingredient of peace and harmony is a catalyst for the vision of our current government to
01:35materialise.
01:36In fact, mutual respect is one of the key principles in our modern concept of governance.
01:45With so many different languages, dialects, beliefs, yet we are proud to be able to live
01:50in a peaceful society and strive to be a fast-developing country.
01:56The Malaysian Buddhists have strong principles, with the middle path being their guiding ideology.
02:02With this principle, Buddhists have been able to avoid confrontation with other religious
02:06practices and ideology, and this is so important in our country.
02:13This non-confrontation principle has been working extremely well, as we can see today
02:17where leaders of the different religious groups, like the grouping of the Malaysian Consultative
02:21Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism, can come together to discuss
02:28matters of common interest.
02:30And we also encourage more interfaith dialogue, not only between the non-Islamic religions,
02:39but also with our Muslim brothers and sisters.
02:43To support and to ensure this fruit procession to be continuously held every year, hereby
02:49I would like to pledge an allocation of RM50,000 from my Ministerial Allocation to the Join
02:56Wesak Celebration Committee, as my way of support and appreciation for the contribution
03:04of the Buddhist community in Malaysia.
03:13Thank you.
