00:00Sarawak celebrated Malaysia Day on Monday to remember that the state had formed Malaysia
00:07together with other regions as a sovereign state with its own constitution.
00:14Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said in his speech that was read out by Deputy
00:19Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uga Embas that Sarawak must be recognised as one of the nation's
00:25founding partners in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
00:30He said Sarawak has its own political system and administration, with its boundaries and
00:36population.
00:37He said Sarawak cannot be reduced to a status that is less than a founding partner of Malaysia.
00:43He said such was the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 when the past leaders negotiated
00:49with other independence figures and the British to form Malaysia.
00:54He said 11 issues under the agreement were resolved in a special meeting chaired by Prime
00:59Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim in Kota Kinabalu last week, but some matters required further
01:06discussions.
01:07The event saw a turnout of some 3,000 guests from various communities in Sarawak.
01:13The young Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr. Wan Junaidi, Tuanku Jafar and his wife Topuan Mohamad Sanusi
01:19were the guests of honour.
