Ex-Blackpool defender discusses his departure from the club

Shaun Barker departed Blackpool in 2009- a year before the club were promoted to the Premier League.   Despite seeing a number of his friends reach the top tier of English football, the retired defender says he's got no regrets.

00:09 It was right for me to move to Derby that year.

00:12 I spoke to the chairman, I spoke to Ian Holloway and said, I'm not desperate to go.

00:17 If you don't want to sell me, if you don't think it's right, I'm happy at Blackpool.

00:20 I still had two years left on my contract.

00:23 I wasn't interested in renegotiating and trying to use it as a way to get more money.

00:27 I'd agreed a three-year deal the year before.

00:31 I had two years left.

00:32 I was happy with what I was on and what I was doing at Blackpool.

00:34 The reality is, if I hadn't have been sold, the club wouldn't have had the money to go and buy Charlie Adam.

00:42 And if they hadn't have bought Charlie Adam, they wouldn't have got promoted.

00:45 It's just the way things work.

00:47 If I'd have stayed, I might not have played.

00:49 I might have got injured.

00:50 I might have not been seen.

00:52 There's been good enough for Ian Holloway.

00:53 You just don't know what hasn't happened.
