00:00 Warner Bros. is allowing a fan-made Lord of the Rings film to stay on YouTube after it was briefly
00:04 taken down. On Thursday, it was announced that Warner Bros. is working on a movie titled The
00:09 Lord of the Rings The Hunt for Gollum. Andy Serkis is starring in and directing the project
00:14 that is being developed by Peter Jackson and his writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.
00:19 Shortly after the news dropped, a 2009 fan-made film with 13 million views,
00:24 also titled The Hunt for Gollum, was taken offline for many hours.
00:27 YouTube put up a notice saying Warner Bros. had filed a copyright claim against the video
00:32 and blocked it. Lord of the Rings fans reacted quite negatively to the takedown,
00:35 and early Friday, the film was restored on YouTube. A studio source says the takedown
00:40 request was done in error. Warner Bros. made the surprise movie announcement during its first
00:44 quarter earnings conference call and noted that The Lord of the Rings The Hunt for Gollum was
00:48 a working title. For more on this story and all the latest movie news, head to THR.com.
