A surfer has died after being found with stab wounds at a popular New South Wales beach. The 22-year-old had just come out of the water this morning at Coffs Harbour when he was attacked. Police are still searching for the offender who they believe was not known to the victim.

00:06 So sad, so sad. We're numbed at this stage. The details aren't clear but of course it looks like someone has lost their life on our main surfing beach here.
00:14 Just coming back from a surf at 6 o'clock, so unfair.
00:18 A 22 year old man was found with significant stab wounds in Park Beach Reserve.
00:24 Around 6.40 this morning a witness going to the gym has identified the male at the side of his vehicle.
00:31 He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died several hours later. Police are searching for his attacker.
00:38 We're not ruling any person in or out in relation to this. At this stage we believe that the parties may not have known each other.
00:45 Crime scenes have been set up at the car park and the parkland area of the nearby Jetty foreshore.
00:51 We've identified some items of interest at a campsite in and around the Jetty area. This area, and I stress, may or may not be related.
01:00 The stabbing happened around the time some employees arrived for their shift here at the Surf Lifesaving Club.
01:06 Now those employees are expected to be interviewed by the police.
01:09 It's just so sad to hear and it's just not in the character of Coffs Harbour for these things to happen.
