Skipper Jim Paterson on the sinking of the Gull on Lake Burley Griffin.

00:00Issuing life jackets was, I saw, as a bit of a distraction from trying to get the boat into shallower water.
00:08What I can say, though, is I don't ever want it to happen again.
00:13That's the first time I've been on a boat that was going down.
00:17A little bit frightening, but you've got to maintain your calm with the other people on board.
00:23And we had 11 passengers, one five-year-old kid, and two of the passengers were not Australian.
00:35They might be Australian citizens, but they couldn't swim.
00:41So that was a problem.
00:43And the woman put her life jacket on the wrong way round, but next to that, there's not much you can do about it.
00:51The boat was refloated by the insurance company.
00:55They salvaged it, but they wouldn't pay out on any insurance claims.
01:01So it's been sitting around here, slowly being brought back into serviceable condition.
