00:00 Sophia Bush is reflecting on her decision to share insight into her private life
00:04 in a revealing glamour cover story about her divorce and coming out as queer.
00:08 In her essay, Bush revealed what led to her split from Grant Hughes
00:14 and confirmed her relationship with Ashlyn Harris.
00:16 The One Tree Hill alum shared that by changing the course of her life
00:20 and making the difficult decision to divorce Hughes and come out as queer,
00:23 she found true happiness.
00:25 In her essay, she noted that she felt like this year,
00:28 turning 41, felt like her very first birthday.
00:31 Days after the essay was published,
00:32 Bush explained what she meant with her birthday realization in an Instagram post.
00:36 "I felt like last summer I had my very first birthday,
00:39 my own. And last summer Maggie Smith's words helped me begin to understand why.
00:44 From afar, she helped me put myself back together."
00:47 Bush included a poem from the You Could Make This Place Beautiful author,
00:50 which explained Bush's own emotions.
00:52 "How I picture it, we are all nesting dolls,
00:54 carrying the earlier iterations of ourselves inside.
00:57 We carry the past inside us.
00:59 We take ourselves, all of ourselves, wherever we go.
01:02 Inside 40-something me is the woman I was in my 30s,
01:05 the woman I was in my 20s, the teenager I was, the child I was.
01:09 I still carry these versions of myself.
01:11 It's a kind of reincarnation without death.
01:14 All these different lives we get to live in this one body, as ourselves."
01:17 Looking back at why it was important to shed light on her personal life,
01:21 the actress wrote, "This week I got to share my own words
01:24 that I wrote down from the bottom of my ever-evolving heart."
