00:00 How China Plans to Launch a Telescope with a 2.5 Billion Pixel Camera into Space
00:04 China's 13th crewed spaceflight, the Shenzhou-18, is the first to the Tiangong Space Station this
00:08 year. The construction of the Tiangong Space Station itself was a monumental engineering
00:12 achievement. Its modular design allows for flexibility and expansion in low-Earth orbit.
00:15 The foundational Tianhe module provides essential life support and living quarters,
00:19 while modules like the Wentian and Menchian brought additional accommodation and scientific
00:23 research laboratories, while the uncrewed Tianzhou brought tons of fuel and supplies.
00:26 As it's smaller and lighter than the International Space Station, the Tiangong boasts greater energy
00:30 efficiency and room for growth. With a solar panel area half the size of the ISS, it generates an
00:35 impressive 100 kilowatts of power. The Tiangong Space Station is set to house a giant space
00:39 telescope, comparable in size to the Hubble Telescope in the United States. Named Shuntian,
00:43 this 2-meter telescope is planned to launch in the near future. It will be outfitted with a
00:46 high-resolution 2.5 billion pixel camera capable of capturing high-definition panoramic views of
00:50 the universe. And as NASA plans to retire the ISS in 2031, China's Tiangong Space Station is
00:55 is poised to become a vital hub for scientific exploration and discovery in the years to come.
