00:23 from dozens of schools across Trinidad and Tobago
00:26 look forward to the annual PowerGen Special Children's
00:30 Funday.
00:31 It's hosted at the company's sports ground
00:34 in Sign Village, Pinal, where the initiative was
00:37 birthed 28 years ago.
00:40 Back then, the company's Pinal plant
00:42 held an event for one school in that community.
00:46 And it's now a major calendar event for the entire company,
00:50 as well as the various schools.
00:53 On Thursday, more than 1,400 special needs children,
00:57 who included autistic, visually impaired, deaf,
01:01 even the physically disabled, participated in a march
01:05 pass and racing events.
01:07 And they're off.

01:16 PowerGen's general manager tells TV6
01:20 that this Funday is part of their corporate social
01:23 responsibility, which is grounded in a commitment
01:26 to improving the lives of children nationwide.
01:29 And that includes those with special needs.
01:32 This year marks the 28th year of this special children's Funday.
01:38 And it coincides with our 50th anniversary
01:42 of the formation of PowerGen, being
01:44 the largest and longest serving independent power
01:48 producer in the country.
01:50 And what's special about this event
01:52 is that we bring schools from around Trinidad and Tobago,
01:58 including Tobago.
02:00 And today, we have 1,458 students from 33 schools.
02:08 The company saw about 150 employees
02:11 volunteer to assist with this event.
02:14 The chairman of PowerGen's management committee
02:16 says it's easy to see why they continue
02:19 to host this particular event year after year.
02:23 He says all you have to do is to look
02:25 at the passion of the caregivers,
02:28 the joy it brings the children, and the hope
02:31 it generates and spreads across those present.
02:35 It's our future.
02:37 If you leave anybody behind, if you leave kids behind,
02:39 if you leave a development opportunity,
02:42 you're losing an opportunity for someone
02:44 who knows where they can go in their life.
02:46 And so every single one that you touch, no matter in what way,
02:50 the magnitude that amplifies down the road in their career,
02:54 you cannot measure.
