A brand new coffee house and bar has opened in Westoe Village - giving a nod to South Tyneside's heritage.

00:09 is the brainchild of John Scroggins who wanted his newest business venture to give a nod

00:13 to his hometown of South Shields. The venue will be open 7 days a week and will serve

00:17 a mixture of locally sourced food and drinks. The local theme has been strong throughout

00:21 the process of opening The Black Candle, with the entire venue constructed using companies

00:26 and tradesmen from throughout the North East.

00:28 It is hard to miss the nods to the borough's heritage, with Bob Olley's timber tram painting

00:32 impossible to miss as you walk into the venue. You can treat yourself to a pint of Sir William

00:36 Fox lager and Catherine Cookson herself features on the back of the drinks menu.
