00:08 There is nothing wrong with giving out duit raya to police personnel.

00:12 UMNO Youth Chief Dr. Akmal Saleh said this after being criticised for distributing the money in

00:18 envelopes to policemen in Jasir Melaka ahead of the coming Hari Raya Ideal Feature celebrations.

00:24 When contacted, Akmal said this was his personal contribution to the police force and civil service

00:30 every Ramadan to show his appreciation for their services.

00:34 He said he will be giving similar donations to local council officials

00:38 and the Jasir District Land Office next week.

00:41 He also said he has been doing this even before joining politics with the funds coming from his

00:46 clinic's profits and that it was above board since it was done in public.

00:50 Akmal denied that the handouts were an attempt to gain support for UMNO,

00:54 stressing that he did not encourage any of the police personnel to vote for his party.
