00:00 The 12th Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards launch was attended by some previous winners
00:05 including Rob Burrow and his family. His daughter Maya won the Compassionate Carer Award with
00:10 sister Macy last year. Supporting the St James' Place Charitable Foundation, we caught up
00:15 with host Christine Talbot and former Leeds United player Brian Dean to discover more.
00:20 The Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards is really one of the most special events that
00:24 I've ever hosted. I've probably done about four years now and I've had the privilege
00:29 of doing the honours on the night alongside John Hammond, my co-presenter. It's a massive
00:36 event, there's usually about 800 people come, but it's a very heartwarming event, there's
00:41 just something different about it because it's all about the children and their unique
00:46 stories and it can be honouring the children from anything from overcoming the odds with
00:52 an illness or a particular challenge. Some of them have started to fundraise in unique
00:58 ways, some of them have achieved sporting or prowess in a particular discipline, but
01:04 every single one of them, their stories get everybody moved and there's often a lot of
01:10 tears on the night, a lot of applause, everybody goes away just feeling so uplifted. For me
01:16 it's really inspirational being involved, when I say inspirational, there's so much
01:22 we can learn from children. We forget as adults how grateful we should be at times, you know,
01:27 and you see some of the fight and some of these courageous children, but it's just a
01:32 reminder of being grounded and how lucky we are, but the fight, we can all take something
01:39 from how they are, so for me it's a wonderful occasion. I do get a bit emotional, but like
01:48 I say, there's so much we can take from the courage of these young people. If you know
01:52 a child that you think deserves a nomination, I say to anyone watching this, get it in because
01:58 it's a very special evening.
01:59 Thank you.
