00:02 - The committee didn't sit down

00:04 at the beginning of last week and go,

00:06 you know what, we're gonna have five teams

00:08 win their conference tournaments

00:10 that we had no idea that was gonna happen.

00:12 NC State, Oregon, Duquesne, et cetera.

00:16 That's a tough spot for them

00:17 to wedge those teams in after that.

00:19 - It is, it doesn't stop anybody from complaining, Mike.

00:22 And to me, the thing that rings most hollow

00:26 about all those complaints is,

00:29 Joe Linardi's on television, I'm on television,

00:31 Jerry Palm is on television,

00:34 on the major networks that cover college basketball.

00:36 And we're telling you what's going to happen.

00:39 We're saying, here is what's going to happen.

00:41 And then the bracket is up there

00:43 and we told you it was going to happen.

00:45 And you're still like, how did that happen?

00:48 Well, why would you be surprised?

00:50 If the weatherman says there's going to be rain

00:55 and you see the weather report and it rains

00:57 and you're shocked, then it's on you.

01:00 And so if you're not paying attention

01:03 to what is being instructed to you

01:05 by people who are living in this space for three to four,

01:10 and in Joe's case, 12 months a year,

01:12 I wouldn't want to be doing those brackets in April,

01:14 I'm sorry.

01:16 But when you are living in that space,

01:19 we've all studied this

01:20 and we all have varying degrees of efficacy

01:23 from year to year, but Joe got 67 out of 68.

01:27 I got 67 out of 68.

01:29 Almost everybody that does an online bracket

01:32 got at least 66.

01:35 There's no shocks.

01:37 The only shock was the continuing accident, so to speak,

01:42 that was the bid steal situation.

01:46 But if you paid attention to what we did,

01:48 we told you, these are the first four out.

01:51 When the bid steals happen, that wipes them all out.

01:55 These are the last four in.

01:56 When the bid steal happens, that wipes them all out.

01:58 So there was nothing shocking

02:01 about the presence of teams in the field.

02:04 The Virginia selection was surprising

02:08 because most of the bracket analysts

02:10 were projecting Oklahoma or someone else.

02:13 Virginia was fairly low on that list,

02:16 but they were on that list.

02:18 So even their inclusion can't be viewed as a total surprise.

02:23 And there were some really very curious seedings.

02:27 And so I'm open to gripes about that.
