The 22nd edition of the FIFDH Human Rights Film Festival awarded Mohamed Jalaby's 'Life is Beautiful', a story of a Palestinian stranded outside Gaza.

00:00 For the past 22 years, Geneva has hosted the FIFDH in March in conjunction with the UN
00:07 Human Rights Council. The festival features renowned artists and activists alike to meet
00:12 the public and present their work. This year, Angela Davis was the guest of honour and spoke
00:17 on a panel about police brutality around the world.
00:28 "I think people are always in the forefront of struggles and I'm very excited about movements
00:35 all over the world here in Europe, but also in the Middle East and Africa and particularly
00:43 in response to the Israeli war on Gaza."
00:49 From Gaza comes "Life is Beautiful" by Mohamed Jalabi, which recounts the trials and tribulations
00:54 of a filmmaker unable to return to see his family in Gaza and stranded in Norway.
01:04 The film won the Sergio de Viera de Mello awards for best documentary. Jalabi came on
01:09 stage still reeling from the news the day before that his director of photography had
01:13 died.
01:17 Russian movie "The Cage is Looking for a Bird" tied for the best drama prize with the Chilean
01:21 film "The Settlers".
01:44 The film takes us to Chechnya, a territory virtually invisible to cinema and the lives
01:49 of young girls who struggle to find their independence.
01:54 The FIFDH was held in Geneva from the 8th to the 17th of March.
