00:01Qatar is warning that the Middle East is now facing a regional war, saying it had cautioned for years, unchecked
00:07escalation could lead to catastrophic consequences.
00:10Speaking to the media, Qatar's foreign affairs spokesperson, Dr. Majid Al Ansari, said that the war can still be contained,
00:16but the current trajectory is very dangerous.
00:19Back in January, he said if tensions in the region continued to rise unchecked, it could lead to what he
00:25described as, quote, catastrophic results.
00:27Today, I reminded him of that warning and asked whether he ever imagined the situation would escalate this far.
00:34As you rightly have mentioned, we have warned in Qatar for many years now that escalation left unchecked and the
00:41region would lead to catastrophic results.
00:43We are at that moment where we are seeing the catastrophic results across the region.
00:48Right now, as we speak, you can put a map of the region in front of you and you will
00:52not be able to find a finger pointing space where escalation is not happening.
00:56This is exactly what we have said from day one. This is the biggest I told you so in the
01:00history of I told you so in the world.
01:02We have said from day one, left unchecked, the escalation that started in 2023 would lead to a regional war.
01:10Dr. Al Ansari warned that attacks on energy facilities on both sides set a very dangerous precedent.
01:16He said targeting this kind of infrastructure doesn't just threaten the region, but could have serious ripple effects for the
01:22global economy and urge the international community to push all sides in the conflict to stop targeting these facilities.
01:28In another major announcement, answering a question from Euronews, Qatar's Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson also welcomed the European Union's efforts
01:37and solidarity with Qatar and other Gulf countries.
01:40I think the partnership between Europe and the GCC has proven its worth in this crisis.
01:45And this is a time, you know, when you know your friends and the worth of the friendship and the
01:51partnership that you have with them.
01:52And I think Europe has proven its worth many times during this conflict.
01:56Just minutes after the Foreign Affairs briefing ended, another national emergency alert sounded in Qatar.
02:01The Ministry of Defense says it intercepted a ballistic missile targeting the country.
