00:00 A call to action that reverberated throughout Hobart.
00:09 It's estimated 3,000 people took to the streets, arguing for Tasmanian native forests to stay
00:14 in the ground.
00:15 This is a festival of democracy we have here today and six days from now, ladies and gentlemen,
00:22 we're going to see a changed parliament.
00:25 We are seeing the destruction of some of the most precious ecosystems with intact cultural
00:31 and biodiversity values and this needs to stop right now.
00:36 An election just a week away seemed to attract the rally goers.
00:39 I really care about Australia's amazing native forests and it's one of the reasons I moved
00:44 to Tasmania.
00:45 We want to save these forests and they're so important and after today our politicians
00:50 surely will have to listen.
00:51 We're nothing without our forests.
00:53 But the target audience isn't budging on its position.
00:56 The Liberals have already pledged to open up an extra 40,000 hectares of forests for
01:00 logging and Labor has promised to review native forest and plantation resources.
01:05 We've got our position very clear.
01:08 We back the industry.
01:10 We back rural and regional jobs.
01:12 But if neither party wins a majority on Saturday, the issue may not be as set in stone as they
01:17 would like.
