Reporter Tom Greenwood tried three vegan-friendly supermarket meal deals to find which one was the best.

00:00 One trend that is set to continue to grow in 2024 is that of plant-based and vegan-friendly food.
00:06 One area that's already jumping on the bandwagon is supermarket meal deals.
00:11 I went to three major supermarkets to see what they've got to offer.
00:15 I went to three supermarkets and chose solely plant-based and vegan-friendly meal deals.
00:20 Tesco had by far the most options.
00:23 I got a plant-based falafel and hummus wrap, a vegan white chocolate wafer bar,
00:27 and a naked blue machine smoothie for £3.40 with a club card.
00:31 Sainsbury's was limited in choice. I chose a no chicken goujon wrap,
00:35 carrot sticks and hummus, and an innocent smoothie. Their meal deal was only slightly more at £3.50.
00:40 And finally the co-op. The one I went to was lacking in options, but I was able to get a
00:45 falafel and grains salad, some hippies chickpea puffs, and their own oat milk latte. Not being a
00:51 member did set me back £4. I will rank each item out of 10 to make a final score for each meal
00:57 deal. Let's begin with Tesco. The falafel and hummus wrap was the best thing I tasted.
01:03 Everything about it was delicious and I would 100% recommend it to anyone. 10 out of 10.
01:08 The wafer bar was okay. The wafer itself was lovely, but I found the vegan chocolate coating
01:14 to be quite sickly. 5 out of 10. And the smoothie, well it was nice, not too thick or sweet,
01:20 and I would definitely drink it again. 8 out of 10. That gives Tesco a score of 23 out of 30,
01:26 a strong start. On to Sainsbury's now. The wrap was disappointing and didn't have as much flavour
01:32 as I thought it would, although the pea puree chicken had a good texture and if you didn't
01:36 tell me it was vegan I wouldn't have known. 5 out of 10. The carrot sticks and hummus came with a
01:41 good sized portion and the hummus was really tasty. Definitely a snack I would get again.
01:46 7 out of 10. And the drink, the innocent smoothie, wasn't as nice as the naked one
01:52 and slightly thicker, but it still had a nice flavour and a little bit of a tang. 7 out of 10.
01:57 Overall, not quite enough to beat Tesco as Sainsbury's scores 19 out of 30. And finally
02:03 the co-op. The salad surprised me as it wasn't something I thought I'd like, but the falafel
02:07 and grains were really nice. The only thing letting it down being the beetroot dip which
02:11 isn't really my thing. 7 out of 10. The chickpea puffs had a good crunch, but the flavour was a
02:16 real let down, with them tasting rather bland. Compared to other ones I've had, these weren't
02:21 the best. 3 out of 10. And last but not least was the oat latte, which was also a surprise.
02:28 A good strong coffee taste and for someone who doesn't normally drink oat milk, it was really
02:32 good. 8 out of 10. Co-op though will have to take last place this time with 18 out of 30.
02:38 Overall I was pleasantly surprised enjoying parts of all three meal deals, but for me in terms of
02:45 choice and taste, with a score out of 23 out of 30, Tesco is the winner.
