Stephen Dobbie shares his thoughts on Blackpool's draw with Wycombe Wanderers

00:00Must be one of all that just feels like a defeat, you know, it stings so hard because it's all out.

00:04Yeah, because we need the three points, so it is like a defeat.

00:09As I said, we played, I thought we played quite well in the first half.

00:12We were up and at them, a lot of energy, a lot of pressing from the front, a lot higher than we were previously.

00:19Fletch's goal was fantastic, so you go in and you try to make them recover and get ready again.

00:26But the energy was there, but we didn't keep the ball wet enough, which meant we were running more.

00:32And as I said, at the end, it was a bit of a killer.

00:35Did we see that improvement from Stockport in just a week?

00:38What you want to do, how you want them to play?

00:39Did you see that in the first half?

00:41I did, yeah, I did.

00:42I mean, we tried to implement different things on how we hurt the last line and how we built the game.

00:48And with the three midfielders in there, how can we get control?

00:51And I thought we did that first half.

00:53Obviously, they're always going to have chances as well.

00:57But, as I said, you've got to do it for 90 minutes.

01:00So, the second half, we ran out of steam and we didn't keep the ball well enough.

01:03And, yeah, I bet a second had it in the end.

01:06Obviously, it depends on how many three midfielders fit.

01:08But is that the way you see forward or the way you sort of started today?

01:11I think that we know how they can hold on to the ball.

01:16And that's what we tried to do today.

01:17Obviously, the rotation, I'll be trying to get forward as well, affecting the last line up there, helping Fletch.

01:24Which I thought we did quite well as well in the first half.

01:27And then losing a player like Albert Morgan.

01:30No team really wants that situation.

01:32But, as I said, the boys then that come out, we just didn't keep the ball well enough second half.

01:38Obviously, second half.

01:39Was it a repeat of some earlier problems this season where you just see, you know, you get further and further back.

01:44Teams put more and more pressure on you.

01:46Yeah, but that's for us not keeping the ball.

01:49We obviously still tried to press as high as we were in the first half.

01:53But then when the balls break and the second balls, you've got to smooth it out and keep it.

01:58And the first half, we did that.

02:00Second half, we didn't.

02:01And that's why Wiccan had more control.

02:03We didn't soften the ball and keep it well enough.

02:06And if you ran, you look at some points where the saves are barely made and some of the defensive contributions as well.

02:12Yeah, I thought Michael and Ollie were fantastic.

02:15Won their duels, won their headers in the box.

02:18Bailey made some cracking saves.

02:21And Ian Zak, I thought as well, defended really well.

02:24But at the end of the day, you come away with a draw where it feels like a defeat because we need the points.

02:30You did say Zak never let the club down.

02:32So how pleased are you that he made the most of his opportunity at left back?

02:35Yeah, it didn't surprise me.

02:36It didn't surprise me.

02:38Because as I said, I've been doing a lot of the individual work with him.

02:41So I know what he's capable of.

02:43And obviously, Keezy worked a lot with him last year to keep him going when he wasn't playing.

02:48So no surprise, Zak, put a performance in like that.

02:51I'm really pleased for him personally.

02:53On Tuesday night, you said you wanted to see maybe more on and off the ball than Josh Bowler.

02:57He was on the bench of the day and didn't get on.

02:58Was that sort of a message to him?

03:00What do you want to see more of him?

03:03It wasn't really a message to Josh.

03:05I picked a team that I thought we could get up and at him.

03:09Obviously, with Bloco and CJ, lots of energy.

03:12And we are we as well.

03:14So it wasn't anything towards Bowls.

03:17This is just the way I thought we could go.

03:19And as I said, I thought the first half justified the decision.

03:23Bowls considering obviously your bit of a reason, how you shot.

03:26To leave Josh Bowler on the bench for 90 minutes and not get on the field.

03:29At least in the wing, you've got players going back.

03:31Yeah, Scott Banks is back.

03:33Obviously, he's there as well.

03:34So the way the game went, you've got to make decisions.

03:38And because we didn't keep the ball well enough and we were back defending

03:42was the reason Bowls didn't get on today.

03:47That's not to say it's anything towards Bowls.

03:50He's still got a massive talent and he'll be a big future of the club.

03:54So certain games, certain personnel, you've got to look at the other ones.

03:58Just finally, obviously, we don't know what's going to happen beyond next week.

04:02But two weeks as interim manager, have you seen improvements?

04:05Have you seen your messages get across and as a team that has grown towards your image?

04:10I feel they have.

04:12As I said, Stockport, at the end of the game, I felt we were in this embassy to try and get the goal.

04:18As I said, first half today, the boys put in a plan that we've been working on.

04:23As I said, second half, we dropped a bit deeper, weren't as well on the ball.

04:29But then we were just looking for them to dig in and try and get over the line.

04:32And as the way the season's been going, it unfortunately didn't go for us again.

04:36And obviously the injuries don't help either.
