00:00 Recently, just off the coast of Tobago, one of the two islands of Trinidad and Tobago, this happened.
00:05 An oil tanker overturned after running aground, spilling its contents into the crystal clear indigo waters of the Caribbean Sea.
00:13 The Washington Post reported recently that the whole thing was a bit mysterious, as the tanker was discovered without a crew.
00:19 Later, it was revealed that the ship was being pulled to Guyana by a boat, but obviously never made it.
00:24 The Trinidad and Tobago government quickly declared a national emergency, as the oil had already spread at least four miles north of the barge.
00:32 Now satellite images are revealing the extent of the horrific spill.
00:36 The oil has now spread nearly seven and a half miles from its point of origin.
00:40 All is volunteers scramble to clean it up.
00:42 The images suggest that the oil is creeping towards northern Venezuela, meaning it could affect other areas of the sea, beaches, and impact coral reef that live there.
00:51 Experts have still yet to determine exactly how much oil has spilled into the Caribbean,
00:55 and divers are having difficulty inspecting or identifying the vessel due to cloudy waters from the ship's bobbing and moving.
01:01 Luckily, the ship overturned in an area where few people reside.
