Artist Stephanie Eufemia settles in to her new studio in Shifnal
Transcript
00:00 So I'm here with Stephanie. You are an artist here based in Shifnell. Tell me about yourself.
00:07 I am an artist, curator, exhibitions organiser and also a producer and a mum.
00:14 That's important. How did you get into doing the art?
00:20 Well I never studied it. My nan's an artist so I think I've always just had it in the genes
00:25 and I used it as more of like a meditation, a bit of a relaxation and then I just became obsessed with it.
00:31 Started learning more and more and ever since I've just never stopped. Turned it into a business.
00:36 You talked to me earlier saying about you kind of picked it up more during Covid.
00:40 Yes, so I used to work in an office 9 to 5 every day and obviously I was at home, nowhere to go,
00:46 nothing to do other than go for walks, lots of inspiration and I just kept painting and people were at home more,
00:52 more interested in their homes and the interior. Just kept buying their art.
00:56 So before you became a mum, you told me that you were using oils. Yes.
01:01 Talk to me a little bit about the tradition that you're using.
01:04 Yeah, so as soon as I became pregnant I couldn't really use the oils anymore.
01:08 It's not necessarily the oils that are toxic but the mediums that you have to use with them.
01:12 So I had to transition to acrylic which was like learning a whole new type of painting again
01:17 but it's kind of brought out more of an abstract style and it's really worked with my artwork.
01:21 And I just haven't changed it since.
01:23 This is obviously your new studio. Yeah.
01:26 How do you feel that's impacted you and had a positive change to your art?
01:31 Massively. The surroundings from left to right are just beautiful countryside
01:36 and it's really instilled more of an inspiration of landscapes for me.
01:39 Because I used to paint a lot more seascapes, Mediterranean and yeah,
01:43 since I've started painting the landscapes in the countryside it's really taken off.
01:46 Well that's sharp, I thought you'd say. Yeah.
01:49 What kind of things have you got coming up this year?
01:51 I've got an exhibition that I'm organising for August time which is a women's focused exhibition.
01:58 I have lots of different artists in Shropshire.
02:01 I'm also working on lots of commissions myself.
02:03 I'm in a few galleries across the UK that I'm creating art for.
02:07 And yeah, it's busy.
02:09 Well I wish you all the best. Thank you.
