00:00 We're here with the beautiful Bonnie McKee. Welcome to the Number Ones party.
00:04 Thank you so much, happy to be here.
00:05 And if anyone knows anything about Number Ones, it's Bonnie McKee.
00:08 She's written with literally every big pop star in the world.
00:12 Is there a song that sticks out to you with more fondness than the others, perhaps?
00:17 - Of my own? - Yeah.
00:19 Oh, let's see. Well, I think that "Teenage Dream" is probably my personal favorite that I co-wrote,
00:24 and of course, Katie's an incredible writer, so always an honor to work with her.
00:27 I mean, working with Katie Perry, I mean, and "Teenage Dream" was groundbreaking.
00:32 What is it about working with big artists like Katie Perry that you...
00:37 Like, I guess the question I'm trying to ask is, when you're in the studio with them,
00:41 how do you create a safe space for them to make the music that ends up being number one?
00:46 Well, you know, I knew Katie long before she was... when she was Katherine back in the day.
00:51 And so we already had a friendship established, but typically when I write with a big artist,
00:56 I like to treat it like a therapy session and just kind of ask them, you know,
00:59 what are they... who are they thinking about, what keeps them up at night,
01:02 and it kind of flows from there.
01:04 And I think I saw you post something on TikTok about doing re-recordings.
01:07 Was that something I got correctly? So tell me a bit about that.
01:10 Yes, yeah. I made an album 10 years ago when I was signed to Epic,
01:14 and I ended up re-recording them and doing Bonnie's version.
01:17 And so that album is called "Hot City," and it's coming out this May.
01:21 Yay! I can't wait to listen, Bonnie. Thank you so much. You're the best.
01:25 I'm such a big fan of all your work. Thank you so much.
