00:00 The 100ml liquid limit at airports is set to remain for the time being as Britain's
00:06 biggest airports are to miss the June deadline to install new security scanners. This means
00:11 that the government will not be able to relax the ban on passengers carrying liquids in
00:15 their hand luggage over summer. Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester Airports Group have
00:19 said that they hope to complete the upgrade of their scanners by 2025. These scanners,
00:24 which use CT scans to provide clearer and more accurate images, are already in use at
00:30 airports like London City and Teesside. Here, passengers are not required to remove laptops
00:34 or liquid containers from hand luggage. The Department for Transport is not expected to
00:39 change its rules to allow up to 2 litre bottles until all airports are fully compliant. It's
00:45 hoped that this new technology will speed up security. Restrictions on liquids were
00:49 originally introduced in 2006 after a plot to blow up a transatlantic flight was uncovered.
